Let the joy of exiled Syrians show you that fleeing tyranny is never a choice people make lightly. No one gets onto one of those boats & leaves their home unless their home has become the mouth of a shark. No one chooses exile. No one risks it all if they could have stayed.

A 2022 World Bank report said 14.5 million people in Syria, almost 70% of the population, lived in poverty while extreme poverty affected one in every four people. Can't imagine why people wanted to flee!

I have been volunteering for a charity supporting Syrian refugees, & this is spot on. Whilst all the people I have encountered have striven to make the best of their lives here, they are also palpably homesick & would give anything to have their old lives back

I really do hope that the different rebel factions will have a conference were they sort out issues regarding power sharing, local autonomy etc and that there could be somehow fair elections and less violence.
