No I think it will take them somewhere. Into the bin. Unfortunately it will also take the UK into fascism. So, erm...

Reminder: the 1970s conservative party eventually forced Powell out. Current iteration wouldn't accept his moderation.

Democrats in the US moved right on immigration and got a whole lot of nothing. Labour should learn from that experience.

What gets me is reading that Mike Padgham, managing director at Saint Cecilia's Care Group in Scarborough, said "We are doing everything we can to recruit local people but sadly the pay is not great". Then stop putting profits over people then Mike!

I've been saying this ever since I was made redundant in 2009 & replaced by cheaper Eastern Europeans. Its not the migrants fault, its our terrible employment laws that allow employers to exploit workers. Its also what fuels UKIP/Reform, 'blame the migrant not your employer'. Its how we got brexit!

I worry Starmer's instincts as a lawyer will kick in and by that I mean following client instructions. His "you voted for X and Y so we're delivering" approach is more following instructions than political leading. If he does this he'll simply chase Reform policies.

Oh it’ll take them somewhere. In a damp corner of a rarely used Westminster kitchen there’s a food waste bin with a mouldy layer inside that used to be the Conservative Party. They’ll be on top of that.

Starmer & the Labour party are proving to be no better than the Tories. Less corrupt perhaps when it comes to lining their pockets & those of their cohorts but other than that they're behaviour is appalling. Bigoted, racist one trick ponies. I for one am disgusted & disappointed.

Absolutely. Whatever Labour says it’s doing, or has achieved, Farage will just raise the stakes - supported by a complicit right wing media. It’s a game of ever-higher stakes where Farage will always have a better hand than Labour. It’s a losing strategy and completely pointless.

People forget how currently reliant we are on foreign workers for food production in the UK today. Pretty much all meat related products would cease to be on the shelves without them.

Goes without saying it will do them no good to try to placate the Reform voters because they were never going to vote Labour in any guise. But doing so will lose them an increasing proportion of the progressive vote, and that likely will lose them the next election given their razor-thin margins.

I have a monthly get together with friends I used to work with. Every month the same think comes up, they are not concerned about migration in itself, but are very bothered about irregular immigration - or boat crossings. Tighter regulated migration means more irregular migration. ...

I would argue they’re doing the same as the Tories in that we have boat crossings because there are no safe routes. Those were stopped to cause the very visible, hard to hide boat crossings. Labour could stop these by creating safe ways to apply to this country for asylum.

Labour are going about the key issue the wrong way. They have become the Conservatives, with a different name, and in doing so, are alienating more people from politics, leaving a progressively smaller number of people prepared to vote.
