This is the first time that I've seen Radio Host Guy lose his cool and raise his voice back at Colin. Remarkable. As is the writing. “The silent majority have finally shouted loud enough for something to happen!!!1”
30k? Forget Wembley, you would have seats left to spare at Stoke On Trent and Milton Keynes football grounds.
Yup.
Thanks once again Zoe.
I'm waiting for the Mail to declare the Court of Appeal "enemies of the people" and Jenrick to call Lord Justice Bean an "activist judge." And are the vandals painting St George's crosses on public property going to be done for criminal damage?
Who caused this problem? Was it the 14 years of Tory failure or have these people all arrived in the last 12 months?
(one error where “I” should be “in” 🙄🤦🏻♂️)
It's populism all over.
The media are obsessed with it all. They are a huge part of the problem.
Feeding frenzy
Schooled ✊🏼
To reinforce the point the Jewish population of 1930's Germany represented just 0.75% of the country & yet... encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/a...
Major boost to the British hospitality industry if you ask me.
Brilliant 🙏🏻
They need to stop calling them hotels. They are not hotels. The hotels have been converted into asylum centers.
Shouting at hotels seems to be the new minority national sport.
Very minor. The shouter can barely muster 3000 across the country. It's lovely in my road - flag free, protester free, occasional little demo in town. Lovely and quiet.
Quite a few in my area - they tried to burn down the Holiday express last year.
It goes to show that no matter who's in power, they will weponise easy targets for political gain(in case of Labour it's not clear)with no real appetite for tackling important social economics.
The Government has lost the plot completely on this. I really cannot believe that a party with such a massive majority is proving so weak at challenging this right wing rhetoric. If I’d known they’d do this, I would not have voted for them.
Erm they just won a court battle to keep this hotel open.
And your point is?
If they were weak on this they'd have just let it be, you seem to be another thats falling into the MSM trap that Labour are doing nothing.
Doing nothing was never an option. But what they chose to do was as bad as doing nothing. Where are the challenges to the right wing rhetoric? Where are the explanations of why we need immigrants? Where are the safe routes that would put the smugglers out of business? MSM trap? Really?
I'm chilling listening to the incredible album "Wildwood" by Sir Paul Weller, peace, love and harmony.
It’s as if they’re perfectly comfortable with it…
You and millions of others….
It would be good to see the Lib Dem’s win a majority in 2029. It would clarify who UK government are actually supposed to work for. The British yellow press and their oligarch bosses will of course never allow the true power of democracy to be exercised in such a way. Too bad.
🧵 For those focusing on a particular policy they don't like in the @libdems.org.uk platform. The two main parties have been co-opted by foreign and domestic monied interests. This is clear since the Gen election if not before. On the whole the LibDems platform reflects the views of the British
Middle Class. Clearly pro #RejoinEU net zero and anti Gaza genocide, anti-racist. This isn't reflected in the British Yellow Press influence ops. See monied interests mentioned above. In any case it warms my heart to know British values are alive and well even if hidden by the disinfo legacy media.
About the bought and paid for legacy British yellow press. www.bearlypolitics.co.uk/p/ignored-by...
The LibDems are not a progressive party - they have voted against most of Labour's taxes on the rich (IHT for farmers for instance), oppose housebuilding, and are doing their best to gut the Employment Rights bill in the Lords. Just because they are pro-EU does not mean that they are progressive.
#Labour is not progressive. They are Reform lightish. Look at the policies of each - #libdems are both radical and Progressive
Labour are being absolutely dreadful in certain areas - around the rhetoric of immigration for instance and that HAS to improve - but their actual policy platform (increased employment rights, more social housing, investment in green energy, renters' rights etc) is quite clearly progressive.
I'm sorry, the LibDems are just not progressive in terms of economics. They are opposed to increasing employment rights, have fought against most of Labour's progressive tax increases, and at local level are almost as NIMBY-ish as the Greens as far as housebuilding is concerned. They talk a good
game as far as social issues are concerned, and their stance on Gaza is good - I think this is where the illusion they are progressive comes from.
Its not an illusion. Take the election of house of Lords, Electoral Reform, Written Constitution, Trans and Gay rights, Europe to name but a few. Libdems finance / tax changes much more progressive than #Labour !!
so why are they opposing IHT on farmers (calling it "the family farm tax")? trying to gut the Employment Rights Bill? opposing every attempt to build housing? In practice they are not progressive.
Yes except you need the Green Party. Lib Dems have been pretty comprehensively taken over -most of hte decent people left in 2010-2012 (half the party quit).
Starver has been showing who he is since he took over the leadership. Some of us were watching and trying to say, but have been derided. Reeves stated herself that labour would enforce bigger cuts than the tories 11 years before the election. 'I didn't know' isn't much of an excuse when this path
has been projected for more than a decade.
PS Who are 'the real nutters' you are 'far to the right of'?
With respect, I knew they’d do this, he told us all who he was pre election but no one wanted to believe him
They fear the meltdown of every media outlet EVERY one
Labour has betrayed its voters comprehensively. By any standards, the current Labour government is not a legitimate one.
That's what you'll always get from a government not alligned to the left or right.
A free press would help, instead of press owned by right wing bigots.
It would - as would Labour not putting out statements that could have come straight from a Reform press office. It would be nice to believe they’re being misquoted - but they’re not.
Indeed. But I wonder how intimidated they are by what the press will say if they do or say otherwise.
It's absolutely wank, I cannot believe they've fallen for it so easily. They've only been in power for 12 months, and we're already back to blaming immigrants for everything. It's pitiful.
The "real nutters" you are so afraid of associating with were telling you that Labour would do this for years before they took office
I’m hopeful your voice is greatly appreciated by millions. Please don’t forget to take good care of yourself everyday.
Racism is a powerful drug for the press.
Well said Zoe!
Agree with much of what you say but very disappointed that you made no attempt to assign the blame for, e.g. lack of housebuilding on the previous Tory governments. This one IS committed to building social housing, and to stopping the haemorrhaging of council homes via the right to buy.
A handful of wingnuts spouting shite outside hotels and it's the headline story on BBC News every fucking day. It's already become the go-to insult for kids in Scotland - 'yer Da shouts at hotels'. I'd suggest they could add, 'yer Da gets his news from the BBC'.
14,000,000 is not a small number. 14,000,000 Brits live in poverty. Yet, many (most) don’t care.
Have you asked a rich person why they don't care?
I don’t expect rich people to care about poor people, but I’m absolutely disgusted by the fact that many working class people have been persuaded that 30,000 refugees are more of a problem than 14,000,000 starving people.
Where have you got the 14m figure from?
Big Joe told me. www.jrf.org.uk/uk-poverty-2....
Thank you for all the work you do to explain the migration issue so eloquently. It must be exhausting, but you are doing a brilliant job.
The UK has clearly always had a significant racist element. All that appears to have changed is that senior political figures and the UK media are saying “its okay you don’t need to hide your racism any more, you can express it openly; in fact we encourage you to do so, just like we do!”
That is the issue, the pool of people with racist views is so large now they are the middle ground politically, Labour can't just say let the Tories have them like they used to, they need them as well now.
I didn’t say it was ‘large’ I said it was ‘significant’ & because of the actions of senior politicians, very visible & audible. I have no idea how many people it involves. Dog whistle politics has become mainstream & therefore ‘acceptable’. That urgently needs to be reversed before it’s too late!
It is made to seem a lot larger than it is by the prominence it's given by MSM. Also I refuse to believe that most of those viscerally hold those beliefs, they've just been sold a lie. Which is why it's so important to see Zoe speaking clear, compassionate sense in MSM. Well done! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yep. And the rest of the decent people are left without anyone speaking up for them
This is the real news story of the summer nothing to do with hotels or migrants it's about enabling fascism.
Thanks for being the voice of the millions, the vast majority, who don‘t want Reform, don‘t want this hatred of refugees and don‘t want our broadcasters using our money to spread the hate. Why are so few of these voices allowed to be heard?
Labour once had a proud tradition of opposing fascism. Looks like the red flag has been replaced with a white one. And if they remain passive for much longer, a drooling racist will spray a red cross on it too!
It's been replaced by a red, white and black flag. They aren't weak: they are evil. ..and it doesn't matter what "the members" think or want because they have no power over what the party does now.
I love the dismantling of the media disinformation at the end. The shock that we would need to take a step … a shocking step of granting a temporary form of leave to remain … oh, that we already take. Thank you Zoe. Please repeat, repeat, repeat.
Two things. Make much more of the fact that "small boats" are a direct consequence of Brexit. Start looking at a different way of absorbing & integrating refugees, like most normal countries do.
Too busy taking holidays, bungs and freebies, no doubt.
Surely you mean the media?
It leads every single news bulletin on 6Music and has done for weeks. I am convinced it is a deliberate strategy to brainwash people who are not closely following the details so that they think it is a much bigger issue than it is. Labour needs to get a grip and clear out the BBC management.
unclear why media, politicians etc arent fussed about these goon slobs outside these 'hotels' being abusive & intimidating (at best) & its patriotic/'having concerns', but when people use civil disobedience re inaction on climate emergency, they're a deemed a malevolent threat to the nation.
It’s the media not the govt. The rabid right wing overseas billionaire owned media.
The full conversation, where we discussed how literally demented it is to keep Sudanese, Syrian & Eritrean refugees trapped in the asylum system for months on end is online here 😊 youtu.be/V5o2q8xewgo?...
How tempting is it, to say to the interviewer "...and you know and your editors know this, surely you've done this research yes?" Or does that lead to them not asking you back?
If you're exasperated by all this and want to do something, consider hosting an asylum seeker (if you have the space). We hosted for 3 years in our family home and we're still in touch with them. Charities like www.paih.org run schemes to match people w hosts (there are others too).
I watched you, you were brilliant and didn't fall for any of her traps. Also "Migration Expert". 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Haha thank you 😎
Things that didn't happen for £49.18: "Yes, but you did mention the word blanket in one of your earlier answers." Sky's Samantha 😳 Washington's 'blanket' gotcha fell flat, check the transcript: text.is/777Z6
Not discretionary but compulsory, subject to limited exceptions
1 in 25 houses in England are empty properties. The government could fix this issue if they really wanted to
The far right has manipulated the people in small boats stories to get power, just as they did to get Brexit. People should be campaigning about improving living standards, helping people get homes, improving the NHS, ending homelessness & poverty, & taxing the rich.
True. Anti EU/ Brexit grifter broke Britain for personal gain & wealth. Always follow the 💰 with this troublemaker because both he & the criminal in the White House are supported by Heritage Foundation with Project 2025 now wrecking USA. Reform = MAGA. Helped by fossil fuel donors, BBC, r/wing MSM
The far right has been able to manipulate the people in small, boastful stories to get power, just as they did to get Brexit. People should be campaigning about improving living standards, helping people get homes, improving the NHS, ending homelessness and poverty, and taxing the rich.
You were superb and so very professional on Sky this morning...and I also enjoyed the eye roll 😁
Haha well she was saying I said something that SHE HAD SAID not me!!!
Yeah I know i saw that then the mega eye roll 😂👏
Was it something like this? 🤔
No change from the last lot, they have been such a let down. This summer has been worse than last summer, this country cannot survive if it continues down this racist rabbit hole.
💯
If only our politicians had the same grasp of the problem and the facts … pitifully pathetic from #Labour
📌
Starmer wants this to go on and on, he wants the knuckle draggers support but in reality everyone hates him and Labour. A stupid one term Government.
The government, the media, our entire political class and half the electorate. Truly insane.
NOT the entire political class Green Party is actually decent as are a couple of Independents. A few Labour MPs would also be decent if they weren't pretening Labour Party was worthy of support. Good candidaters *are* available -if they don't win then that's on you!
On me? 🤔
Characteristically superb, Zoe, bravo 👏👏 Love the Wembley attendance figure….those kind of illustrative comparison figures are always so effective, and the conversation needs more of them. Nice that you didn’t get shouted down, makes a change!
Well said Zoe. We need refugees/ migrants here. We're all immigrants, or descendants of immigrants. What a good place the world could be if only extremely rich, greedy right wing people and their propaganda media outlets were not permitted to spread divisive, racist views. Brexit arsonists broke 🇬🇧
Thank you 😊
Starmer has lost the plot.
Absolutely. They’re a resource, make them useful. De-escalate the snarling anger from the flag wavers.
It's like the government needs to take an assertiveness course.
DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT #FARAGE ALWAYS BEING ON TV IF YOU HAVEN'T SIGNED THIS PETITION !!! DO IT!!!!! RT and thankyou for your attention to this matter! 😰 petition.parliament.uk/petitions/71...
I'm a positive person today I feel like giving up. I look at the US, the Democrats took the moral high ground and lost. This story is based on a lie, immigration is a positive yet our media and Reform sell the racist lie migrants are the problem, no it's the right the gov must start fighting back
Keeps the genocide we are complicent in off the airwaves.
Thank you, Zoe, for speaking the truth and uncovering the incredible manipulation of information that is now dominating UK media. So sad to see this happening to this country; as Italian myself, I thought this could happen only in Italy, 20 years ago
Need to look at how Spain operates their asylum system
For goodness sake! This use of hotels and lack of processing asylum claims was much more widely used by Tory govt. This govt has been processing claims, has been dealing with the situation albeit slowly. Tories will be laughing in their beer - if snake Farage wasn’t around to stir the pot.
If Farage and his mob are behind any of it they should be banged up in a Cat A prison for terrorism.
Hotels .... Really. They are reception centers. You make it sound as though they live in luxury. Utter bollox and misleading
Why do we persist in calling them hotels. They are reception centres set up in failing hotels which would have closed if the government hadn't pressed them into service.
You fried her brain.
The government has a grip: THEY CHOSE THIS. See who teh government are not who make a very flimsy pretence of being
Pathetic failure? What a load of horseshit. Dealing with the the tories deliberate chaos and you call it pathetic failure. Very populist of you
The pathetic failure is pandering to the noisy twitter/x mob rather than actually trying to fix the problem properly. The tories did the same and it is why they did so bad at the last election, Labour are going to go the same way unless they get brave and actually make real, measurable change.
Labour have vowed to clear the hotels by the end of term and the numbers are going down. The tories allowed the backlog to grow to the numbera they became. See the jenrick interview in which he admitted it about 2 year ago
The problem isn't asylum seekers, its talking about them on a daily basis, as if it is the only problem the UK faces. Labour will fail because they are trying to solve non existing problems rather than the actual ones, like failing public services, inequality, poverty and most of all facism.
Well the media give special treatment to farage and the tories. Theres a legitimate concern for small boats crossing the channel that cant be ignored. They are working on the many issues we face, things cant be fixed overnight. Especially after 14 years of tory mismanagement
No your right they can't, but when the first few main things they do is go after pensioners and disabled people, and encourage right wing racism excuse me for not thinking we are getting the change we hoped for.
Yea theyve made some really basic mistakes with winter fuel and dwp. Starmer really needs to get his act together and decide what side hes on. Its the one thing that pisses me off about labour so far. Hopefully lessons have been learnt
Yeah I feel the same, I'm gonna wait to see what happens in the autumn budget and if it is more of the same I will be done with them.
Well done, a great exposition of the facts and just how pathetic UK Govt response is. One could surmise that it suits them to allow this to fester. Between 1945-51 a Labour Govt, in a country scarred with bomb sites, built 157,000 prefabs & 1.2m permanent homes. This lot couldn’t do it Lego!
*with Lego
Yet they fail to mention the 35,000 (+) that Labour has returned in under 14 MONTHS of being in government!!
Superbly articulate yet again Zoe, well said!! 👏👏👏
I actually blame Labour more than Reform for it. Labour's rhetoric on immigration borders on racism. Since "make Brexit work" Labour moved so much to the right that they are now no better than Reform.
Labour should just be saying the facts - The Tories broke the whole system and will take time to employer new people, train them and get the system working properly.
Apparently people are sick of Labour having pointed this out ever since the election, so too many have now decided that everything which has gone badly wrong over many years is the fault of the 14 month old government. 😒
That's not who Labour are. You have to recognise that Labour became unsalvagable in 2020. The clique running it is abusing the party machinery to make sure they can't be displaced. This is their ideology not them being weak.
Labour in 2025 are no different from Labour in 2010. Remember the anti immigration coffee mugs? Remember Iraq? Remember Labour supporting austerity? You have to remember the Corbyn era was the outlier. This fantasyt version of Labour that people have in their heads never existed.
In 2010 there was still a chance of Corbyn happening. That's simply not the case now.
LOL Corbyn is a piece of shit. He's just been on stage with a deeply anti-LGBT right wing MP celebrating their new party.
He's not a peice of shit he's just hopelessly naive and has somehow picked up the bizarre idea that anyone who opposes something he opposes must be decent.
Regardless by "chance of Corbyn happening" I meant "chance of someone on the left winning the leadership/having a chance to determine policy". Corbyn's failures are a completely different topic
I would like someone on the left but Corbyn and his cult ruined that just as much as Blue Labour have.
Labour stopped "saying the facts" when they *chose* make Brexit work over opposing Brexit. Labour is complicit in Brexit and what is happening right now. It's time Labour supporters stopped making excuses.
If we don't make our current situation work then we are fucked. You would bankrupt the country rather than accept we cannot rejoin right now.
The minor problem is Starmer's Blue Labour Brexit red lines make it impossible to make UK's current situation work. UK decided to leave EU but never endorsed Johnson and Starmer's hard Brexit that's causing so much damage to UK.
Oh I agree Blue Labour need to go.
Best of luck Steve
100%. As absolutely despicable as Reform and their policies are, at least this stuff is what they've _always_ been crowing about. For Labour to essentially heel-turn and, through their inaction, legitimise the opinions and actions of those on the right, is arguably *more* despicable.
I get the point, but letting them work would, in effect, allow them to stay as it would make them legal asylum seekers. The answer is that the processing of their claims that needs speeding up and the rapid deporting of failed asylum seekers.
Three quarters of all asylum claims are accepted. I have no issues regarding them working
Yes. I could easily come up with dozen more-important issues than this nonsense. It's a disatraction from the issues we *should* be angry about.
The government can’t & shouldn’t control the media. The majority of the current media in this country, including the BBC, are paying homage to the far right/farage, what is the answer?
Well said Zoe.
It's dominated the press, the TV news, across parts of social media. It is the only thing breakfast TV and R4 seem to want to ask politicians even when they are there to outline childcare or other progressive policies. Almost as if the hate needs to be constantly fed to keep it going.
This looks exactly like Australia's fascist playbook on immigrants (both major parties). I hope you have people looking at the tactics they used here.
Tony Blair banned asylum seekers from working didn't he?
#Francais #French is a beautiful language: #Romance #Paris #France #Love We recently produced a very sensual but inelegant stimulating album. No dark depressing vibes. Top #artists the songs tell stories. #popmusic #jazz #ChillinBrazil all #music platforms
The Racist Right Labour Party is actively promoting this shit.
Starmer is incapable of getting a grip unfortunately. He'll check with McSweeney and Farage first what type of grip to get and how tight it should be.
He's not incapable. He *has* a grip. Stop pretending he's secretly decent.
I'm not. I think he's weak and incapable. Difference of opinion you see. And that's OK.
