My guess is that those defending their use of X simply see significant revenue, engagement, subscriptions, etc from their activity there. And they don't want to give up that money/attention/etc. Related to those who use substack tbh, which has some unsavory connotations.
There are so many things I miss more than X: cigarettes, three channels of TV, what the Catholic Church was like before we knew what the Catholic Church was like, colonoscopies before they invented Cologuard, the Cold War...
