I missed the context, but I am not sure if this is insightful or tautological. A privilege by definition is my entitlement to something you're not entitled to: a type of double standard. Still it is pithy and might be a good way to state it explicitly.
I would put money down on the fact that a bunch of these conservatives are lacking the self awareness to know they're hypocrites.
They know they are hypocrites. They consider that a good thing.
Hypocrisy -- who is condemned and who is not -- is a way of delineating the in-groups and out-groups of Wilhoit's Law.
While you're right about the people in power, I'm confident that many of the right wingers who have the least political power project their own moral failings onto everyone else as a means of escaping them. It's the narcissist way. They deny reality out of fear, which turns into hatred.
