Pure laziness. People “follow all” from lists without vetting. Lists are a great tool if you also vet. But bad actors are creating follow/block lists that purport to be blue accounts, but are really MAGA accounts pretending to be blue. So they get people to follow MAGA accounts and block 💙 ones.

I vet all lists. Can count in one hand those I will take their word for it and none of them have created starter packs.

It’s most likely the Starter Packs. People don’t go through them. They see one that looks like it’s from someone they follow and just accept it. Same thing with the block lists. I saw one that contained everyone I follow.

They ate screwing up the block lists too? 🤯 I look at each account and block individually to be safe.

I find so many of these every day. Careful who you’re following, folks! And when blue accounts follow the trolls, it makes them that much harder to identify.

I'd like to have the feature we had on the other place where when someone follows you, you can remove them and then block. I feel a bit bombarded.

The hard block does the same in one step instead of two.

I havent been able to find anything that explains the difference and how to do that. I've looked everywhere (bsky, google) dont know what I'm missing.

Please vet before you follow. Make sure accounts have community engagement and aren't MAGA before you follow. Go through your follows and clean them up... do it now before the list grows too large to handle. We need to keep our home clean!

He followed me so I checked his account and saw the MAGA and I blocked him. People need to do a better job of vetting accounts. I guarantee there are sleeper MAGA accounts around here. I won't follow any account without some community engagement that shows where they stand and what they are about.

And that they are real people. Same here. I even say in my bio…no feed = no follow.

I went ahead and deleted the repost and replied to the original post... I didn't even think of that until I saw it on the page and I certainly see how some might misunderstand what was happening there.

I reported it to bsky & a magat tracking list a few min ago b/c he tried following me. When I vetted it - it's schizophrenic: 1 pro-democracy/Harris post followed by five vile posts licking Trump's scrotum. If you skim you might be fooled. Friends - pls don't skim. We need these toxic people gone.

I’ve encountered multiple accounts like this recently - i.e. that post seemingly contradictory posts appearing to support multiple positions. It’s straight out of the Vladislav Serkov playbook - an intentional strategy to confuse and muddle the truth. Are they Russian bots? No idea, but could be.

There are Magat tracking lists? I’m out of the loop. Where?

I recommend subscribing to @skywatch.blue. That’s the moderation list I have been using and report all MAGA troll accounts I encounter to it.

You have to trust the list holder by vetting to be sure they're not adding accounts by mistake or they're not a magat pretending to list resisters as magats on a block list. I trust this cockroches list. The person running it has been dead on accurate and FAST. Go to lists - SUBSCRIBE - block.

Forgive me if this seems foolish but I'm really new to this sort of social media, but I do like to follow accounts I disagree with cause I like to keep an eye on what people are saying. This is held against people? Like following some GOP politicians? If I'm misunderstanding my apologies.

That’s what LISTS are for. Put ANY pundits you want on a list. Have several for different topics if you like. Just do NOT follow pundits from the other side or MAGA accounts.

Figured that out a while ago, it is people boosting others without vetting them, I am making packs with people I have followed for years & completely vetted now so my packs are safe.

The personal vetting makes a huge difference.

It’s only been the last week we seem to be getting MAGA in larger quantities and right out there about it. I’ve said I will be doing heavy duty vetting in Jan and Feb. I expect to have to purge a number of peeps who are proceeding Willy Nilly. Figured I would start warnings now.

I did. Going to make a suggestion. As MAGA tries to work its way in, please start putting political accounts in a list instead of following them. Same with news. Those are the first 2 things troublemakers are likely to target. Once they are in a list, unfollow. The list will keep them in your feed.

It’s not just them following you. It’s them following the people YOU follow which makes them connected to you. Look on your main page. There is a ‘lists’. Start making lists. Put Fla Dem party & others like that in a political list & unfollow. Same with news and other big accounts you want to see.

When you click on lists, this comes up. Note the upper right where it says new. That’s where you click to create a list.

Once you create a new list, pin it to home (top right), even if empty for the moment. That adds it to your feed. Then go find accounts you follow who are super large and will never follow you back and add them. Look for the … on their profile page.

Can't claim this applies to that one - but I always vet. And I've had a few accounts now that have been instigators in disguise. I've tossed them pretty quickly, but not everyone is using lists and other automations.

I didn’t follow him, but I did notice that two people I recently followed back (after vetting them) changed their bios and photos and suddenly became Maga accounts. Looks like a Trojan Horse strategy of pretending to be progressive, then changing after getting followers. Yes, be vigilant. 👍

Be sure to share when things like that happen. We all pick up on a few and no one notices them all quickly.

It might be all the “let’s get followers” “follow everyone on the list” and people believe they’re all vetted. I dig way down before following or following back. Which is why an so slow to follow back. It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality. IMO

It’s taking me forever to vet too. Going to be a busy Jan and Feb (cold and snowy here anyway) with all the vetting I still need to do.
