Well… for the second time this month I’ve been to the Animal ER in the adjacent town. This time it was Zeppelin with an obstructed urinary tract. He is going to be fine. Overnight stay in the hospital and maybe a night at our regular vet. If any of you were expecting a Christmas present… see pic 😳

‘He’ gonna be fine. 😂 I’m just glad it was a quick thing. All of his kidney function was fine. Bloodwork was fine. No stones on the XRay. They even brought in the machine that goes Ping.

Hopefully Zeppelin is doing well after his appointment with his regular vet and the smell of the vet’s office has worn off. He likely has some diet changes in his future.
Sadly. He is still at the vet. He’s not going potty and they don’t want to release him until he has.
Oh no! Hopefully he makes it back home soon. I can’t recall how long my cat was away when he had the blocked urinary tract from crystals in his urine.
I was hoping he’d be home this morning.

I had a cat who had a urinary Tracy blockage. It was a good thing his litter box was in view, which helped in noticing there was a problem before he was in bad shape. He had to change his diet.
Those frequent visits to the ER and specialty vets are no fun. I had two cats with that experience.

And that is the order of things. The little fur babies are gonna get what they need. They gave me an estimate. I literally said ‘good lord’ out loud and signed the agreement. He’ll Fully recover tho in a few days with a diet change. It’ll take me longer to recover. 😂

Our vets are part of the University vet school and their fees are pretty reasonable for the care they provide but the bills can really mount up in a hurry. They do have CAT scan and MRI capability and all kinds of really amazing treatment options including a special equine center. $$$$$
I’ve been pondering reasonable. I don’t think anything is reasonable anymore.

Oh dear, I’m glad he’s going to be OK. I’m sorry about your bank account. That’s one of the reasons I had insurance for Toby. He was a poster cat for vet visits.
Ha. Thank you. The estimate for this overnight trip is $2k… and then he goes to the normal vet for further treatment. That insurance is looking pretty good about right now.
And worth every penny.
Yes. The animal ER was $1260. I wonder if they shoot high so you don’t feel as bad when it’s lower? 😂 I hang around too many car salesmen. Anyhoo, waiting on the regular vet to continue treatment. They open at 8.

Thank you. It was very surprising. He is my healthiest and most active cat. And he didn’t start acting noticeably weird until last night. He will make a full recovery with a special diet moving forward.

Oh no.. Does he have a taste for tomato juice? Way back when, we had a cat that had a slight problem. During the exam, the blockage was squeezed out. Small crystals I guess. Vet suggested tomato juice to help keep the pee acidic. No further probs. Of course, later cats did not have a liking 🤷♂️
Reminds me of the folk remedy cure for human urinary infections: cranberry juice, which is also acidic.
Same idea I’m sure.
He’s never expressed interest in any tomatoes lying about but who knows. This vet said the Blue Buffalo food was likely the cause of it. At $50/11 pounds I would have thought it was okay. Apparently this is not uncommon. 🤷♂️
Does the vet recommend a cat food that supports bladder health?
This was just the ER vet. He goes to see his regular vet in the morning. The ER vet didn’t recommend anything.
I’ve always had tomato juice or V8 with breakfast (not for same reason 😂) and the cat kept eyeing mine so I would pour him a saucer so he could join 😄

Ouch… that’s a rough day but glad they’re able to help. Our “fix the floor” fund has covered many things over the years that aren’t floor related, including vet bills. Still have the threadbare carpet, of course. 😬

Vet said he was nearly completely stopped up. I just can’t believe that happens overnight … but he hasn’t shown any signs of acting in discomfort.
Buddy of beloved memory went through that in April 2020 (shortly after lockdown). It's shocking how quickly it happens & how quickly it can get bad. Cats are masters of hiding pain and illness, unfortunately. He recovered from that just fine (altho it did turn me into a Cat Pee Clump Monitor, lol)

lol. Yup. He’s here right now. Waiting on the reg vet to open up. He has removed his cone of shame and he’s working on the catheter. I put him in the small crate hoping it would constrict his movement but I forgot about the fluid nature of cats.

Super high protein diets can cause problems in humans, I didn’t know it could cause problems in dogs. Sheesh. We try to do the best for them and that may be a problem in itself.
