didn't really see this guy being one of the only elected Dems who understands the moment but here we are
didn't really see this guy being one of the only elected Dems who understands the moment but here we are
Americans love large rich men, I think Pritzker has the inside track. Plus Midwest Dems are usually the best Dems.
He's been in my radar for a while. FDR came from an old money elite wealthy family too. Pritzker's my current favorite for '28.
FDR was rich as fuck too. And Pritzker gets good marks from progressive folks in Illinois.
He really has been a fantastic governor. I had my doubts about him initially when he first ran, but he really does walk the walk.
He’s been low key one of the best Dems around for a while now. National press has mostly slept on him in favor of talking up Newsom and other jagoffs. That’s fine, I suppose. We’d like to keep him in Illinois if at all possible. This man fights.
If he were about that life he'd fund a bunch of progressives with them billions he has squirreled away.
Husband: No, that's violence. Me: I REALLY like this guy!
I had a bully from elementary school to high school; almost a decade of abuse. When I had finally had enough, I punched my bully in the face. I definitely didn't win that battle, but I won the war. They never bothered me or spoke to me again.
Similar story. It's true in almost situation unless the bully is literally a psychopath, and yet we always get taught "responding to violence with violence is never the answer" even when it so clearly is.
Yeah the zero tolerance policies at schools are a terrible aspect of this. Both kids will get punished even if it's one beating up another and the victim defending themselves. That and you can look at nearly every conflict in history and see that responding to aggressors with peace usually loses.
Me, either. I held my nose while voting for him the first time, but he has really pleasantly surprised me.
I can't wait to see well thought out and articulated arguments from the other side on this like "Wow, u mad bro? You always were the bad guy now you just proved it anyway let's go operation Greenland genocide"
Pritzker's been really impressive the last few years. One of the few Dems not squandering promise.
We’ve been conditioned to be perpetually disappointed so it’s just refreshing to see a handful of democrats saying the right things.
yeah didn’t expect the billionaire midwesterner to be rising to the challenge but hey i’ll take whatever i can get
In addition to saying the right things, he should give away all his money above $999,999,999.99
Huh. I was not expecting that figure when I looked up his net worth. That's a big number.
best case scenario is he pisses them off enough that he winds up tanking and soaking up DPS for with that fortune
One of the tiny handful of national Dems I would legit be thankful for an assist in a bar fight.
I live in Illinois, and I am pleasantly shocked.
That’s MY governor babyyyyy
Pritzker ALWAYS takes the side of the underdogs of this Country & he doesn't care who likes it or not. He cares about POC, LGBTQ, women & children more than any other Governor in my lifetime. He HAS empathy. He HAS morals. And he HAS the balls to back it up!
He’s rich enough to not give a shit about repercussions. A huge asset.
Probably should be the guy to run if the country survives to 2028.
Corrupt GOP government destroys the social fabric necessitates a billionaire democrat unafraid of eviscerating the billionaire class who wrought said destruction
Gov JB! ❤️
Yeah, this man looks like he should be selling me a decently priced sedan.
I mean, he probably could get you a decent deal on a room at the Hyatt.
Will even send extra shampoos and conditioners.
so more trustworthy than the whole current administration?
Absolutely, not a sportscar, gets you comfortably from a to b, maybe has a few quirks but thats used cars for you.
not spontaneously bursting into flames and trapping you inside as well. elon musk is doing damage to the reputation of EVs and Ketamine beyond repair.
No sir or madam! Just a decent sedan at a reasonable price.
slaps car roof etc pp
Put her in H!
I'm not surprised that it's him but I'm surprised it's him and only a couple other people.
yeah, and f*ck Newsom
A rich guy from a silver spoon family willing to punch nazis? Welcome back FDR.
He went to a law school named Pritzker. He's not an ally or a comrade. He's a fucking billionaire.
At this point in time it doesn't matter. All that matters right now is that somebody is willing to fight back because Senate Dems sure aren't willing to. If he actually puts his money (literal or figurative) where his mouth is then I've got his back because he's got mine.
I don't live in IL so I don't know if he's good for his word but he's making a good show of it which counts for something when it comes to rallying people up.
Ever noticed how FDR was really rich?
and also arguably violated the Constitution several times plus y'know internment History is a messy place
Very messy. Hey, you ever consider doing BtB on Tom Harrison, the British anthropologist who reintroduced headhunting to Borneo in order to fight the Japanese during ww2? Fascinatingly wild guy.
yeah
Then I shall live in hope for an ep or 2. Til then I'll do my own much-less viewed vid lol
Well that's something for ME to look forward to, then 😎
You can still be a billionaire and give a fuck about people. That’s JB.
You must be a neolib
Shut the fuck up
FDR had ancestors involved in the opium trade. Therefore, I will vote for more Hoovervilles in 1932!
Settlers are so fucking annoying.
You have some wide swath of allies lying around that you can discard one?
There is no lack of leftists willing to cut off their nose to spite their face
preach!!!!
When the rich turns traitor against their own class, it’s actually a good thing.
He's a literal fucking billionaire from one of the oldest colonizer families in the US.
the pritzker family? or is he related to some other notable family?
Rich class traitors are good, Cass.
By the time we find a candidate that is acceptable to you, the sun will have consumed the earth.
Colonizer? Where have Ukrainian Jews colonized? And where do YOUR people come from? Why don't they go back to where they belong! See it hurts when people say that to you, doesn't it?
From your lips to God's ears, because we're holding out hopes for him in the next Presidential election.
The braincells in the mainstream Dems are few and far between, but they do seem to be finally lighting up, at least. If more Nazis get punched in the face because of this, all the better.
I think Robert mentioned this in a post after Trump's address to Congress as well but you'd think Dems would want to be getting noticed for stuff like this. It's one of those times where it would be good for themselves politically to get noticed and it would be good for the rest of us to hear it.
💯 The AZ Attorney General has also been great about accurately describing what's been happening.
All hail the Great Kahn of the Plains
He's taken a few fists in the face. It was lessons he understood.
Right ?!? I live in Illinois. Pritzker evolving into this statesman has been shocking. Anyone else thinking that this is not his final evolution ? That he will get even larger to meet the moment and win it?
This guy is the new old Richie Daley style Chicago Dem. He's definitely a guy for this moment.
#Pritzker2028
DEMOCRATS ARE NOT THE SOLUTION BUT HALF THE PROBLEM.
Its nice to see a guy who looks like me actually not being a complete and total douchebag
Pritzker / Walz / Whitmer for Great Lakes Coalition Tribunal 2028
Give our track record with governors, I've been so proud of him as someone born in Illinois.
Same. I've been following him in bewilderment for a few years because I have....respect?? For an Illinois governor??? Who may not even go to prison???? Took me a while to adjust. If he had a goatee, it'd make sense. I'm honestly not surprised now that he's standing up while so many Dems roll over.
I'm sure he still has time to pull a corruption scandal out of this, but if he keeps up with this, I might even forgive him that. Let him have some corruption as a thank you gift.
I mean, to be fair, one of the guys Blago was talking with on the wiretaps was JB. That being said, as Gov he’s kinda made up for it.
Ah, that actually makes me feel better. *That's* what I was expecting. It was freaking me out to have warm-fuzzies about a politician.
He should do another toilet based tax scandal to forever become legendary in my mind.
A little corruption. As a treat.
Hard same lol
Class traitors are strong allies. FDR and Teddy are good examples
You don’t get to change the rules of the game without first winning the game in some fashion.
I think it’s worth mentioning that all of these guys inherited their wealth.
Yeah that’s a wide majority of billionaires. I am aware
They still committed atrocities.
yeah presidents are bad but the whole species benefited overall from the fact that FDR was where he was when he was
Let’s just say all 45 men who were presidents did that. It’s baked in. Do i want that to change? Of course. With FDR we got our strongest social net from any president and Teddy busted trusts, gave us national parks, regulation of food production snd railroads, and ”Stewart of public welfare”
What can I say more than I agree. It’s hard for me to fanboy any president for anything when the reality is that they rode waves to keep the machine running for those in power. FDR did great things for working people and then the Taft-Hartley Act “corrected” to keep us down.
I’m firmly in the “kill your heroes” camp. No president should be a 1:1 example, but the biggest social safety net gains were from under the richest Dems of the last 120 years. Also, need to get fucking far away from the unitary executive
Cool. How would that work?
Which part
Changing from a single President in the Executive Branch. What would work?
That’s not the unitary executive theory. It’s that the president has total control over the executive branch and can fire anyone for whatever reason, not just for cause. Planning his cronies in charge for independent agencies. Pushed by Reagan, Bush and Trump limiting congressional oversight
Proud of Illinois!
y'all who cares if he's a good person if he's got a few billion and he winds up drawing fire from people who don't great otherwise at least it's not another Schumer. we aren't really sitting on a lot of good options here
Also he like...did a pretty good speech that was honestly better than most shit the dems have done in a while, Bernie and AOC obviously excluded m.youtube.com/watch?v=5uFw...
you gotta fight with the folks you have not with the folks you wish you had
Exactly. I'm fully Pritzker pilled at this point. Man might be a billionaire but he's actually saying and doing the things we want a leader to do.
He’s very good.
Good billionaire is an oxy moron.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way. This guy is leading. I'll take it.
and like if he turns out to be shit you can still fight him then.
JB is a solid dude.
Perfection is the enemy of Good Enough.
Beggars can't be choosers, and it pains me to even say that..
IMO it’ll take another white guy for the Dems to defeat the MAGA infused Rep candidate in the next election (if there’s one). I hate it but it seems that’s the reality of America It just might be someone like JB
Funnily enough, @katmabu.bsky.social just announced she's running for congress, in Illinois.
"Big Tent" is why people like Schumer and Fetterman are in office to begin with. Some skepticism is justified. Still, going against party leadership to make this statement is absolutely a good sign.
Yeah Pritzker seems to fit the mould for "At least he stands for SOMETHING", plus, shit in one hand and count perfect politicians with the other and see which one fills up first
FDR was also wealthier-than-god aristocracy.
Word.
Do you get the feeling that maybe, just maybe, the left needs to look inward, realize we have a common enemy, and just throw our weight between the people that are fighting at this moment for better or worse. Perfect has absolutely become the enemy of good enough given the stakes.
if you are an American and you don't see yourself as partly to blame for where we are there's like a 70% chance you're delusional we all need to look inward and link arms to beat these fuckers
I absolutely agree! I personally have not even started to do enough. But I’m arguing with old guys from my home town on Facebook. So I’m doing #mypart 😂 We are all collectively culpable and share the load. We can do this. Then we can go back to arguing about what brand of leftism should rule!
Yes. There are no perfect people, we're all flawed, what matters is who we are in the moment, what we want for the future, and that we're willing to fight for it.
You fight with cock you have, not the one you wish you had.
Clearly we can only have support or solidarity with good politicians who have a strong sense of morality and justice who would never do anything immoral, corrupt, or selfish. Unfortunately this filters out all living politicians. So ig we just gotta make do with what we have.
I don't think "living" is necessary in that sentence. I think that we have a serious problem with how we relate to politicians as a country. We should support them as long as, and to the extent that they are useful to us. No admiration. No worship. They're supposed to work for us.
Going to need a big tent to defeat fascism in the country.
And Pritzker will be around to make sure that tent doesn't have any toilets in it and we love him for it
Your big tent has been courting and including fascists.
You do not want an Angel in a room full of devil's
So far as I know Pritzker hasn't hosted a podcast with the ghost of Hermann Göring, so he's got that over Newsom.
Damned straight. I'm an IL resident; didn't vote for the guy in the primaries (did in the general though), and definitely disagree with some of his stuff (PICA annoys the fuck outta me), but I'm glad we've got someone NOT considered a political outlier standing up.
This is the issue with purity tests. I don't like Pritzker. At all. He is one of the only Dems with a pulpit who is meeting the moment. You don't have to agree 100% with someone to say they're one of a few not being completely spineless.
I think this is actually a healthier way to view politicians. We need to stop trying to find heroes and instead look at politicians as someone who we hire to do a job. I don't have to personally like my car mechanic. I just need him/her to do their job: fix my car and not rip me off.
he threw his money around to beat better, more progressive gubernatorial candidates in Illinois. I held my nose and voted for him. Really wasn't expecting him to be the best governor in my lifetime, both in substance and message. He is, though. Granted I still live in Illinois, so the bar's not high
It's the lefts need for a hero that has gotten us to where we are. The saying I heard years ago was that the right falls in line and the left falls in love. And it's that stupid need to love their politician that loses elections.
A lot of people would have been very unhappy during the Golden age of unionization in this country... If you're not willing to work with someone just because they have unsavory connections, I would suggest you may not understand the moment that we're in.
🎶Few solid Dems left, but it’s not enough🎶
You *want* some utter assholes on your side. You don't get the Civil Rights Act passed without LBJ.
Yes. Yes I do. I’d take a boat load of feisty assholes over one Schumer every day.
He recognizes what the moment is, and in the same speech condemned anyone throwing trans people under the bus for political expediency. I currently have a lot of conditional support for the big guy in Illinois.
“Conditional Support” is such good mantra to have for anyone in leadership.
Yeah, I learned decades ago not to fanboy over any politician. But some of them can do the right thing sometimes and I'll give credit where credit is due.
yeah to me it's not about liking them the more people with power and money saying shit like this is chaf and that keeps the enemy distracted and us safer
Also, I won't fanboy any politician, but kinda giddy that a podcasters and journalist I've liked for years responded to me directly. Gonna go brag to my online friends.
I'm fairly certainly we interacted before back on Twitter didn't we?
Almost certainly. And I have several personal friends that were involved with the Elm Fork JBGC back when that was a thing, so probably related to that, aside from me just being a long running fan of your reporting and a general reply guy.
He's better than most give him credit for. The magats in my area can't do much more than hammer him for his weight.
Some of Dem will rise to the occasion. So far, I am everything but impressed. We need more of this. It's fun to see Bernie and AOC in the red states, but they will always be considered outsiders for the Dems (and Bernie isn't really one).
I've always liked Pritzker.
Hard to get too excited over billionaire politicians
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, until I learn that they are not.
I will accept it.
my partner transcribed some of his speeches etc like 6 yrs ago and was always in favor of his shit just good strong midwest values and he is set for cash so doesn't need "foreign" involvement he's strong in my mind get him leaning 3rd party and he'd be a killer
He has been great for a long time.
Yeah it surprises me too. I remember when Pritzger first ran for governor, I hated him because all of his ads were "Trump is bad" with nothing else on offer. I figured he was another milquetoast centrist lib. Turns out he is fairly progressive and is a fighter (which is what we desperately need).
And on the younger side. Not these ancient old forces stuck in a distant past.
Don't underestimate JD Pritzger.
Number 2 choice for president after walz if he runs
Dem officials ranking from most oppositional to most collaborationist rn: State AGs > Governors (except Newsom) > House > Senate
Which Costco guy is he
#propunchingnazisintheface You were the one that got me to make this hash tag Robert
like yeah, yeah, guillotine all billionaires but until we can do them all at once this guy doesn't need to be at the front of the line
He is one of the few super wealthy individuals that doesn’t set of my “this person is an actual piece of shit” alarm. And I generally despise the wealthy so that says a lot.
Pritzker kind of gives off Roosevelt vibes being that he's rich as fuck and progressive-ish for his time. Now all he has to do is avoid their racism and Teddy's war-mongering.
Definitely rather have him than that sociopath Newsom
The worst Newsom. The best being his cousin Joanna who would never throw trans folks under the bus and plays harp like an angel. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social what a waste of a good name you turned out to be.
Make or break time for anyone blue in office. Hopefully it can become a growing movement for the party.
The meatball man we deserve
Dude is a billionaire, educated at the most expensive schools and spent his youth in Palo Alto. His world is full of entitled lowlife bullies from the tech industry. He absolutely understands the moment.
Isn't that the guy from The Wire
He’s done right by Illinois. It’s wild to be rooting for a billionaire but he seems to be on the right side.
He's pretty good.
We definitely need more progressive leaning and progressive period Democrats to be speaking like this. I would prefer to have them be a little more psychotic in their rhetoric about what they want to do to the oligarchs, but you fight with the army you’ve got ya know?
I did. The happy warrior! Illinois leads the way ♥️🤍💙
Already know who can play him in a contemporary biopic or more likely SNL. Oliver Platt.
It does seem like Oliver Platt manifests in the cast of any show set in or near Chicago, so I don't even think you'd have to call him for the role. He'd simply appear on set.
I just watched the first season of Fargo lol. He's on my mind. Plus I don't think I'm the only one who can see the resemblance. Those dudes look alike.
Yup! Maybe when we eat the rich we should spare Pritzker & Mark Cuban😂
I was super unexcited when he was originally running but he's been a remarkably good governor the whole time. I would say the best in my lifetime but that bar is incredibly low given it's IL :V
I really do see him as the next president. Maybe for worse but probably for better.
Clearly not a follower of the Khan
Our glorious Khan is the best part of living in Illinois.
The Khan clothes himself in glory
He took the seat from Rauner who ran his own little DOGE style spending freeze, basically killed a lot of non-profits and such around the state, did the “run gov’t like a business” thing, so he kinda had a dress rehearsal for the moment
Lower stakes admittedly, but still
Other 2028 nominees are going to have to work to knock him out as my presumptive vote He has also been pretty rad as governor
Maybe we can do a new thing with a president and 2 VPs, like what Trump is doing now except they all actually get elected. Then we can have him, Walz and AOC. Bernie can be secretary of holding them accountable.
As in the Frenzal Rhomb song: All We Need is a Punch in the Face.
Or Bob Vylan's: Pretty Songs.
Walz and Prizker have been quietly building real, democratic states in the upper Midwest, putting in policies national Dems swear are impossible while MI and WI still trying to dig out from Snyder and Walker, now gut punched economically by Tariffs. Walz is still AIPAC solid tho.
Yeah I am not really excited about or focusing on either guy as a 2028 candidate our problems are so much more immediate than that and they are both in a position to help with some of those issues
They’re uniquely well positioned seeing as they are governors. They actually control state machinery!
So is Pritzker, unfortunately.
Homie, I'm in Chicago, tell me about it! (He's still a POS ziocunt though)
yeah as governor of Illinois he's in a good position to actually protect trans kids (which he seems committed to doing) and i don't really see how he personally can make the situation in Gaza any worse in his present office
No, I'm pretty much with you. As someone on the trans spectrum, he has my attention both with his protections of us and his stance on sex work, to say nothing of our immigrants here in Chicago. I'll take it--for now.
We may ultimately need a billionaire to fight the other billionaires. What a country!
If Ted Cruz had punched Trump when he insulted Cruz's wife we'd be in a different, but probably not much better world.
I don't think I could understand a world in which ted theodore cruz ever did something even vaguely admirable
I kinda did actually…. Me and a lot fj leftist trans girls in Illinois are kinda sorta fans but in maybe we should fight sorta way
...and Walz can kick everyone's ass! Such violent imagery from America's governors. If Pritzker tried to punch someone in the face, he'd best be sure to connect because if he missed, his momentum would drop him like the Hindenburg.
Bernie, the Bartender, and the Billionaire were not the three pivotal people I would have expected (though it fits alliteration nicely). AOC of course. Bernie, yeah. buuuuuuuut
I have to admit, I find the thought of this gorilla punching Trump in the face to be comfy cozy. Or anyone, really. Do something.
They wanna be nice, they just can't... The 2025 White House Easter Egg Roll! Brought to you by... #trump #whitehouse #Easter #roll #corporate
Illinois got all their most corrupt governors out of the way early
I’m really starting to like this guy.
I dunno, sounds pretty Chicago to me.
Maybe he and Bill Burr can link up now that Bill’s doing NPR spots. This is the message Dems need: get angry. You don’t fight fascism with hugs. You fight it with feet and fists and whatever else ya got lying around.
He’s really amazing and gives me HOPE!
www.reddit.com/r/livemusic/...
Pritzker is impressive. He has led Illinois well. He isn’t afraid and can’t be bought and that’s important.
hell yeah that's my governor!
His cousin is retired National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer Pritzker, a trans woman. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennife...
wild how often the solution to bigotry is just have someone you love be a member of a marginalized group
Although it also tends to feed that bigotry if that loved one is someone they have a more complicated/ strained relationship with them.
Too bad it didn't take with Liz Cheney the way it did with her dad.
Or Musk
Dicks will always be dicks.
We've had quite the streak of bad governors here in Illinois, but I'm relieved we finally hit on a decent one. And the timing couldn't have been better.
Pritzker for President
