This reminds me of a Martin Luther King quote I came across earlier this year that resonated with me given...everything about both me and the world lol "The American people are infected with racism--that is the peril. Paradoxically, they are also infected with democratic ideals--that is the hope."
Kinda easy to imagine what the people of the French Revolution were thinking when they started permanently removing the aristocrats......

it would be nice if those democratic ideals had done more work since Dr. King's time.

He was kind of big on the medical metaphors, yeah Letter from Birmingham Jail: "Like a boil that can never be cured so long as it is covered up but must be opened with all its ugliness to the natural medicines of air and light…
"…injustice must be exposed, with all the tension its exposure creates, to the light of human conscience and the air of national opinion before it can be cured."

The first part is accurate, the second part I believe was much more hope itself than observation to pin hope on. I just don't see those democratic ideals in the vast majority of the population. The man had a way with words though! Here's hoping he was right and I'm just an old cynic.
