On August 27, 1883, the Indonesian volcano, Krakatoa, erupted in an explosion that propelled ash 50 miles high and was heard 2,200 miles away. To this day, the eruption is considered the loudest modern sound ever heard. So, just how loud was it?

Infographic comparing loudness in decibels from Krakatoa's 310 dB eruption to everyday sounds like city traffic at 85 dB and normal conversation at 65 dB. More info: https://www.britannica.com/place/Krakatoa

I'm not saying you're wrong about that being the loudest sound ever, but have you ever heard this guy when breakfast is late?

We need to remember that dB is a logarithmic scale. meaning it is exponentially louder as you go up.

For reference.. those are BIG jumps in numbers. Just a 10db increase is going to sound like something is twice as loud to your ear as a previous sound.
