Dude’s a writer, one of the few professions that makes shit up for a living. How many scenes has he written with people being mutilated and dismembered? Somehow I never see people complaining when a horror writer writes violence or suggest he’s somehow a violent person.

to my understanding, the scene was not meant to invoke horror, but did anyways because it was about kids. it was meant to symbolize them maturing or something, but it came off horrific against Mr King. if it was a child orgy with the intent of horror, I'm certain that would still be criticized.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s still fiction. I’ve read It several times and never got the sense that the reader was supposed to be anything but uncomfortable, certainly not titillated. It’s an uncomfortable scene, one that the character Beverly herself is shocked by when she remembers it.
