I used to think that when global warming truly began to bite, deniers would face reality & we could act. Now I think it's more likely it will lead to a kind of fascism that will respond to global warming by, like, executing everyone who says global warming is real.

When you combine super dry vegetation with 100 mph wind gusts, even small fires can erupt into a fire storm. The Carr fire in 2018 resulted from a blown tire. The sparks from the steel rim scraping the pavement ignited nearby vegetation.

A new feature of climate change driven fires, is the ability to jump 4+ lane highways (Tubbs Fire) and even rivers (Carr Fire). Pumping water from a reservoir is useless against that kind of force.

The tubs fire jumped 8 lanes (200’) of highway 101. No amount of “Forest Management” can stop a 100 mph driven wind. You would have to remove all vegetation as in everything is just bare fucking dirt to stop this type of firestorm from spreading.

Friends told us about Victoria, Australia’s Black Saturday bushfires in 2009 (killed 173). Near 50 degrees celcius at their place and 100+ km/h winds; apparently the birds were all just sheltering under trees in a big mix of species. Not much firies could do.

While considering fire management and water availability are important, from what I know these catastrophic fires are primarily the result of extremely dry conditions, high winds, and building in proximity to chaparral/woodland vegetation. Climate change is certainly a contributing factor.

The major complicating factor in fighting these particular fires isn't a lack of water, but getting the water where it needs to be. The municipal water systems aren't designed for these kind of fires and the wind kept the firefighting aircraft grounded overnight.

This isn’t like someone forgot to recharge the fire extinguishers. Reservoirs are filled by rainfall, so droughts make the worse. And there’s only so much you can manage an entire forest being dry and ready to burn unless you just want to get rid of forests altogether, which then creates problems.

We use rain to full our water reservoirs. It kind of relies on rain. Which oddly enough, is connected to weather. Maybe surprising to some, but rain doesn't know about politics. Does the USA somehow not use rain to fill reservoirs or is Woods as big of an idiot as he sounds? I don't like to assume.
