Google seems to think that more and longer searches is a sign that people are responding positively to the changes they have made to search. I would argue it's because people need to do more searches to find what they want and need to be increasingly specific cause of how bad it's gotten

Yes and the more searches people have to make to find what they need the more they can monetize via ad impressions.

I think I was reading somewhere, probably a post, that Google is making more money off ads now that people are forced to engage longer, scroll further, and utilize multiple prompts. They're actually incentivized now to break their own product given their monopoly power
