i think it’s not so much shopping addiction. it’s what ppl with hobbies do. guns are their hobby. golfers are alway buying a new club. sports fishers. it’s always a new rod/reel. backpacking/hiking. there’s alway new gadgets/gear to buy.

Idk my hobby collecting doesn’t mean hundreds of people could die from my collection of Thing I Like.
Hobbyists and shopping addicts are *far* from mutually exclusive; it’s often the venn diagram that is a circle
Golfers use their clubs, Fishers use their rods, I (a backpacker) use my backpacks (the 3 I own). I guarantee that the people in those pictures have multiple weapons in those collections they've never fired, or have only shot with once.
“Golfers use their clubs.” Man, I wish this was true. You can only carry 14 and I have over 50 in my basement.
Lmfao, time for a yard sale, and although Im not really a fan of golf courses because of water usage (Im in Cali), they aren't really on the same scale of issue as gun violence in America.
The only good thing is that they don’t have big game trophies on their walls. A slingshot is as far as I want to go.
Everyone should use the tools they are comfortable with. I support that.
Vocalize, don’t shoot.
I have been shot at and engaged with, for being vocal. The attackers would have entered my home and likely shot me had I not been able to return fire. I support strict gun laws, so that I don't have to live in that reality.
I have a slingshot, and I target practice with it several times a week. Of course I only shoot clay pellets, just to startle the deer out of my yard.
I have a slingshot, too. Mine is for coyotes who want to eat my little dog. Don't come into my backyard.
I have just learned from this that i might need to get a slingshot for this specific purpose

yes but what would your driveway looks like if you still had all the gear you’ve bought over the years? guns last. they play with them. there’s always a current favorite they use on the range. they clean them. buy some as collector. antique or hard to find. buy some as investments.
Wild that I have people coming in here to defend Americans owning an absurd amount of weapons. Enjoy that I guess.
Only anecdotal evidence to back up your statement but back in the day, I had to liquidate one of these collections as part of an estate when I ran a gun store. Only 5/112 guns the guy owned were actually fired over the course of 32 years.
Does one need to maintain a gun that is never being used to keep it in working order? Like, if a gun is never fired, is there still a need to clean it regularly?
Yes. Depending on type of metal you deal with rust or tarnish. Oil or grease will evaporate or degrade. Wooden stocks and furniture (bits & bobs other than stock) will need polish. Leather straps and slings will need maintenance to avoid drying out and becoming brittle.
Thank you for answering. So, it looks like those people either spend all their waking hours maintaining their guns, or most of them won't work when the global zombie apocalypse happens. (or whatever fiction they've convinced themselves they will need them for)
Yep, have lots of guns I’ve old shot once and I few I’ve never shot at all. Some old milsurps are shockingly hard to get ammo or even reloading components for.
Those are collector items and Ive already addressed this in other comments. I have no issue with that. The pics in the op arent people like you, most of the guns on those pics are relatively modern.
"i own 14 different glocks!" "okay, why?" "just bc."
Ya nobody had that conversation just now, but ok. 🙄 Owning 14 glocks would be dumb af.
i'm agreeing with you and mocking the people in the photos. they own a bunch of random ass guns most of which are all equally interchangable. i suppose it'd be more accurate to say :"i own 14 ar-15 variants" than glocks though.
Oh sorry, lmfao my bad.
One of them appears to be milsurps. As for the others, less my thing, but not going to hold it against them. Though I do like the general thought that you should be spending more on ammo than guns at least.
The difference being that my doll connection isn’t going to kill anybody. Unless someone breaks into the house in the dead of night and they decide to take quarter-scale revenge, I suppose.
Funnily enough, a couple of them are armed better than I am. And Prudence may look sweet, but she _will_ stab a bitch.
Have you ever heard the term “gear acquisition syndrome?”
Eh, I have a fountain pen hobby and I haven’t bought new supplies in probably a year. I think it’s whether your hobby is the acquisition or use. If you have more than you can use? Well…
yeah, i don’t quite psychologically get it. is it a way for daydreaming about the hobby? are they chasing some high from the first time? are they trying to squeeze 0.1% more enjoyment out of it? but at some point, it transitions to as you say “hobby is the acquisition.
