You're both correct. After WW2, fascists and the KKK lost ground. The John Birch Society stepped in with one world government paranoia, Eisenhower as a communist, and fluoride hoaxes. They built talk radio and syndication networks. Paul Weyrich drew on that model when he built the New Right. 1/

Weyrich fused Bircher-style mobilisation with neoliberal anti-socialism. The strategy was twofold: stoke mass paranoia through culture war media while think tanks like Heritage lobbied elites. William Lind, working with Weyrich, sharpened the message into a long culture war with CM. 2/
Lind’s idea of Cultural Marxism carried the panic past the Soviet collapse. It united antisemitism, racism, & religious homophobia into one umbrella conspiracy. From pronouns to superhero casting, everything was cast as part of a plot to destroy the family, Christianity, property, and the West. 3/
