If you know that an action will have a damaging effect, and you take that action, the damage is, definitionally, not the result of a mistake. This is not complicated. I wonder if Chuck Schumer knows how much his very existence in leadership makes me want to de-register as a Democrat.
Obvious that Schumer doesn't really care about downstream outcomes. He thinks all the bad things happening are just noise and he's supposed to say specific things to address the little people who care about that noise. He wants the team he manages to win the game next fall, but if not, meh...
