We found this chick hiding on our porch, he tried to fly from a seagull nest along the street but he's not ready to fly. We put him in our garden. We'll feed him cat food until he's ready to fly off. We rescued a seagull chick 2 yrs ago & called him Steven Seagull. This one is called Steven Sequel.

Hope the parents don’t find out or they’ll attack you. Gulls weigh 3lb and can hit you on the back of the head at speed, causing concussion and sometimes needing stitches. They know we can’t see behind us so attack us from behind. Be careful.

The parents have found him already, we know they are very protective and we'll have to stay clear of the garden until the chick can fly away. This isn't the first seagull chick we have rescued. They have a habit of falling out the nests on top of the tenement along the street.

They like the flat sections of tenements as they act as a kind of runway for learners but prefer a lower building of maybe 1.5 storeys ideally. Their natural habitats are the low lying islands of the kind you find around our coasts and firths. Nobody knows why they are abandoning them.

I had one in my garden last year. The parents came back regularly to feed it but as others say, they are very protective so you need to wear good head covering when you go out in the garden!!

We’ve become the ‘go to’ place to bring abandoned young here. Although most are tended by parents, occasionally they don’t spot it when one falls off, so we feed them up for a week or two then take them to local animal rescue from where they then fledge in a few weeks.
