They actually met in the tank, the conference room used by the JCS which is both a SCIF and a SAP-F and they talked about TS stuff, they have to set the room if they change the clearance level which to an outsider appears silly and inefficient

I believe that when the story got out, they pretended to stop Elon from getting classified info but that contradicts their other story that he was just there to visit Hegseth. They called the story fake news. No matter what spin they gave from the oval office, Elon still got the classified info.
