i’ve read before that gottheimer is widely disliked by other Ds, including the rest of the congressional delegation; maybe he’d get outside money in a primary but not a lot of in-state allies

that's true and hopeful; the problem is he has a shitload of money and can raise a shitload of money and new jersey is still a machine state which leads to odd incentives and dealmaking
