You could take this Tice quote from the article as meaning he thinks we've decided to embrace suicidal levels of planetary heating rather than continue to move toward a sustainable energy source that could mean we never have to burn organic matter again.
Money blindness. Nothing matters to them except money as a rationale. Anyone who looks with reason at the numbers knows the shift to renewable energy not only makes sense to surviving as a species but economics too.
