The Avian flu doesn’t just kill off the sick and weak chickens. It kills up to 90% of the flock and it’s a horrible way to die with much suffering. If they let something like that jump to humans, with their refusal to work on new vaccines, it would decimate the world. It’s just horrifying.

The fatality rate is potentially the saving grace. In terms of an epidemic anyway. Delayed onset could still be an issue but it's much harder to spread a disease thru a population when you're already dead.
