IDK. I use “religious” terms on occasion, despite being an atheist. These parents allowing their child to die of a preventable illness, is certainly criminal negligence. I don’t see a substantial difference in referring to their actions as “sin” or criminal.

Criminal negligence means prison terms for the parents, sin means they just need to confess what they did in a confessional booth to be forgiven. The difference is how important you consider punishing the actual crime.

That depends on which version Christianity one subscribes to. That’s really just a matter of semantics, and doesn’t change the fact that it’s crazy to say using “religious” terminology is as bad as letting children die unnecessarily

Faith and religion are not mutually inclusive. If they had said these parents deserve to be tortured to death for not following science I would've said the same thing. Blind faith no matter what the faith is in is dangerous. It just happened to be religious terminology this time.

Historically there would also be self-flagellation with whips involved for repentance of sin but modern churches are a lot less demanding on that part now since governmental power has largely become independent of them.

You're missing the point. It has nothing to do with religion. Blind faith can be in anything or anyone - religion, science, Trump, unicorns. The point is that condemning someone through the lens of blind faith because of someone else's blind faith is hypocritical nonsense.
