LOL, I worked in food retail and Canadians would come in with a long list of requirements for working. No weekends, no evenings, constantly calling in sick. The foreign workers were happy to get a job and they worked harder. Very much what we needed in a tourist town. No one forced us to hire anyone

I worked in food retail back when I was in university. It was a very hard job to get. It paid well above min wage, I had a dental plan as a part timer, got quarterly COLA payments & plenty of hrs if I wanted them. Now they pay min wage, no benefits & if you're lucky you get 1 or 2, 4 hr shifts/wk.

Either the position wasn’t properly advertised or the pay isn’t high enough to attract candidates for the position. This is literally how it works in the capitalist system we’re in. So what you wrote isn’t something that should be happening. PP is wrong but let’s not compound the issue here.

I'd add that there can be a bias towards not hiring candidates with activities and interests that may interfere with full availability. I was trying to get a hockey team together for a company event and found the previous Manager excluded players as he couldn't schedule them.

Lots of places are looking for 24/7 availability, while offering irregular PT hours with low wages - making it impossible to have a second job, go to school, arrange childcare, and so on.

I consulted for an AB fast food place. They offered a liveable wage, health benefits, mthly/6 mos/y12mos cash bonuses, $600/1200 xmas cash + gifts, paid for student books, sports, trips AND would pay for post secondary IF they stayed/returned in summers. They still couldn't find workers.

You prefer slaves to workers?
