I count 49 news headlines on the NYT mobile app home page right now, not including opinion, sports or cooking. None of them are about the massive protests yesterday.
I count 49 news headlines on the NYT mobile app home page right now, not including opinion, sports or cooking. None of them are about the massive protests yesterday.
Would YOU cover something you hate?
I stopped reading NYT in 2017 after the editor purge. After looking around this morning, the Modesto Bee is the sole paper I found that has any story of the #nokings march on their front page anywhere close to the banner today: www.modbee.com. Props for a traditionally red voting area. #journalism
NYT and WaPo are embarrassments to the first amendment. They are basically both state media now
Weren't they covering the protests yesterday and they happened?
They are so predictable.
We had and have the same problem with media coverage in Germany (concerning the demonstrations in Germany). The protests in the US are mentioned in German media, however sometimes with smaller numbers or inadequate wording.
The protests were ahead of the Trump parade when I looked at the homepage this morning. And the front page today. #justsaying
Yaman was born to the sound of bombs instead of lullabies. A child who has known nothing but cold and hunger—he needs only milk and diapers. Let us be the warmth of this world for him, before cruelty takes him as it has taken so many before. www.gofundme.com/f/support-al...
It’s impressive how many a$$holes are distracting from genocide FFS!! Down with the Crown! #NoKings #EndALLGenocide #EndRacism #HumanRightsforALL #CANCELRoyals #everychildmatters #MMEIP #treatytrumpscanada #dismantlethepatriarchy
🤬
I thought you must be exaggerating but wow.
It is, weirdly, on the front page of the print edition.
NY medias are a joke…
👍🏽 This is the only thing that they will get their attention. Imagine if they lose millions of subscribers overnight.
This isn’t fair. It was the number three story yesterday after the Minnesota killings and Iran-Israel. The parade was below the protests.
You can’t demand real-time analysis and coverage and the judge by what’s in the paper the next day. One is a model that responds to today, the other is 20 years out of date.
And — I would add — the No 3 spot was right. Minnesota and Iran-Israel were more important
Furthermore- the only story about the parade today is one about a close ally sponsoring and the ethical concerns. That’s an appropriate second day story.
What should we say the second day after the protests? Yep, still big! And we’ll tell you they were big again tomorrow! What’s the follow up? What’s second day news?
You must be fucking kidding.
I am not. Tell me the second-day angle? I’d run with anything that added new info and was at least as important as the Minnesota manhunt or war in the Middle East.
Please don’t think I’m saying the protests were unimportant. There were *very* important and they got a lot of coverage on Saturday. But unless there’s some new info, other stories - like I mentioned - deserve coverage too. As far as I can tell, there was no new info on Sunday.
Read what you just wrote out loud. If a newsmen with as much institutional experience as you holds this belief, there is "no second day story to tell" on the biggest protests in American history, I don't know what to tell you. I could name you infinity of narratives here both macro/micro.
So what is the new angle? Not personal reflections about how much they meant to you/someone, not op-eds, but actual news. Tell me, please? Also, we don't yet *know* they're the largest in U.S. history. They were certainly VERY large, but larger than the women's march? Maybe? Maybe not.
Fuck me.
This is why local news should be king. They printed national syndicated stories but also cover your town/region. NYT/WAPO are no longer reliable.
I guess only a general strike will make an impact.
For the sake of your long-term health and that of others, please keep in mind that the New York Times has “safewashed” COVID the same way they’ve “sanewashed” Trump. Same outlet, different lies.
(Often lies of omission.)
What I find odd is even the most right wing sites are covering it from their perspective. NYT is unusual in totally ignoring it.
They were nonviolent; ergo, by NYT’s standards, inconsequential.
If it bleeds it ledes.
Came here to say this, no truer statement
Which is exactly what we see in Sunday’s edition.
but the police response was violent. doesn’t that count?
The Tea Party protest were nonviolent but were breathlessly covered by legacy media, including NYT
Also, lots of libs don’t like Trump? Not news, move along!
Trump supporters still like Trump? Front page stuff baby!
Yup, they do literally this article every few weeks.
Wtf, @nytimes.com
I don't follow or read rag mags like NYT... they're no longer reliable news.
The MSM is under reporting the number of protests around the country, as well as the number of participants.
My Journalism 101 professor is spinning in his grave. 😠
They can either get on board or be left behind. They won’t survive if they don’t meet their market.
(They won’t. They love trump and kinda like fascism.)
except no one is leaving them behind. they're still getting the clicks because people are sofa king useless they refuse to uninstall the app or just stop freaking opening their links. NYT has been garbage for awhile now, this isn't a brand new thing to anyone who's been paying attention.
I dumped them eons ago and now I crusade to get people to ignore them. The NYT is not going to change no matter how you berate them.
hpum77uuuuuuudf
yyyuoo99 lol lol lol too
Time to cancel.
MSM dug its own grave, where it is now gasping its last breath. Eventually, someone w/ business intelligence (hint hint @mcuban.bsky.social?) will organize the now independent castoffs and generate REAL competition certain to exorcise the current MSM outlets permanently. A girl can dream, right?
NY Times must think it will benefit from the coming kleptocracy.
@washingtonpost.com even worse
They suck.
NYT is not remotely worth subscribing to anymore.
👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 🤬🤬🤬
lol
I do not expect anything other than Trump whitewashing and sane washing from @nytimes.com Of course it’s ignoring the protests. Did you read the coverage about the parade - made it sound like the one after WWII
There were articles yesterday - here’s a link www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/u...
That was a choice, and every subscription rewards them for these kinds of choices. You also have a choice: #unsubscribe
Oh, I did.
Same
💯 That is absolutely the only thing that they will understand.
It’s like they don’t even understand news anymore.
Reminder that the Philly Inquirer is owned by a nonprofit!
as is The Guardian, a superior media source to anything published in the US and they do excellent coverage of this country
I thought exactly the same thing. I keep giving NYT more chances, and it keeps disappointing me.
Why are giving more chances? Thing was rotted before besos buy it
Bezos owns Washington Post...not the New York Times
Oh sorry, still both untrustworthy
We're going to have to bring it to them, it seems
I’ve been profoundly disappointed about this across the news today.
Can confirm: zero coverage found on "Today" section of the NYT app!
the NYT makes itself irrelevant at times. Its owners and top staff are full of hubris: WE DECIDE WHAT IS NEWS! Not always...not really. Is it better than Fox News? Yes of course...that's vulgar propaganda. But as an elite media source, the Times can be very very annoying, that's just the truth.
@nytimes.com why aren't you covering the fight against fascism? You know what happens to organizations who side with the fascists once the fascists lose, right? Might want to rethink your business strategies before the guillotines arrive. We won't forget this! :)
Later, when they escalate, they will clutch their pearls and wonder why the protests can’t be perfectly peaceful.
The front page of the Sunday NYT (paper edition) has photos of the No Kings events.
They got called "the Failing New York Times" about ten years ago and they said "hold my beer."
I wish this surprised me.
I mean, wasn’t it A1 above the fold today and also they had a liveblog and like a dozen reporters at various protests..?
If you use the mobile app, which they want us to do, the protests yesterday don't exist
Of course not corporate America doesn't want the people to rise up
More reasons to cancel your @nytimes.com subscription.
State rag just doing it's job.
Absolutely crazy making.
Try this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=baR4...
The mainstream media is the propaganda arm of the fascist oligarchy. Not to be trusted, not to be tolerated.
They hid the huge anti Iraq war as well. It was massive.
What...you want actual news?
SF Chronicle covered the protests well. They also nailed COVID science and national election coverage. On some topics, NYT is not the paper of record.
And how were these headlines chosen? This means literally nothing except there are at least 49 articles people who work for the New York Times have written and you just happened across them and not the ones about the protests, should there be any.
They were chosen by the NYT, since those were the ones on the homepage of their app. You should work on your reading comprehension.
Why would a right-wing tabloid talk about their guy getting upstaged?
WaPo a little better but it's still buried
CNN.com isn’t covering, of course
i hate NYT. I have them blocked from my google news.
Appalling---but fortunately I don't think the 5 million who were there are keeping it a secret...We have to make our own media, clearly . . .
11 million :)
They had coverage in most major cities. Maybe don't use the app
NYT absolutely garbage. Why I cancelled my subscription
@nytimes.com you are ignoring a major segment of the country. And these are the people who read. I saw many of them yesterday. We know you are failing us.
If someone told me a few years ago that the SF Chronicle was many times better than the NYTimes, I would have quickly rejected that notion. Not any more…
And why was their lead up headlined Cities Nationwide *Brace* for Day of Protests. Why not “Prepare”??
The fascist elites are mobilized against us.
They've been very careful about "balancing" coverage of the protests and the birthday parade.
The New York Times also won't tell you that Israelis blew up car bombs in Tehran yesterday. You know, car bombs like terrorists use to murder civilians?
What is the purpose of a post like this? Are you suggesting people get in touch with the NYTimes? You didn't tag them. Or are you just being demoralizing?
I’m flooding social media with shared videos of No Kings protests!
It was heavily covered with photos and video yesterday on the NYT app.
They no longer report news, just fan fiction
Well im sure FOX has been talking about them non-stop
That’s infuriating. Glad to see it made the front of the printed edition. Boston Globe too. (Parents’ house!)
There were articles. He’s just stirring up shit. There’s 3 articles about how trump is grifting the presidency
Hope Sulzberger sees this bro
Oh was he at the orange turd’s inauguration like Trump ass kisser Bezos?
Dunno about that, I just checked the app and there's literally nothing about the protests on the homepage. Trump critical stuff yeah, but nothing on No Kings.
Because it happened yesterday. Online news is about what is happening now or has just happened. Print is about what happened yesterday and it’s all over the front page.
Okay, so by your logic I shouldn't be seeing anything about the assassination yesterday, nor articles on Amy Coney Barrett, or the military parade.
The articles about the assassination are “breaking news” updates. The item on Barrett is analysis. Don’t see anything about the parade, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see analysis of what a colossal boondoggle it was.
The app refreshes while you’re reading another article and then go back to the homepage. Really annoying sometimes. Also they keep the features and cultural news up longer. Is the Times perfect? No but it’s better than Bezos’ rag that the op works for. How did all the “progressives” miss that?🤣
Maybe the Times not being perfect is why we should continue criticizing it? Shouldn't it be held to a high standard?
I agree that their algorithms for the front page leave something to be desired. But they spend more money on their games section. That’s why most people read them anyway. 🤣
Wordle is really what keeps subscribers reading the NYTimes.
They're two sides of the same consent-manufacturing coin.
Only one was at trump's inauguration honey pie
Is the Times perfect? It literally lies to support the views of its owners. It's just a little less humiliating for the staff than the WaPo.
The only people lying are you commie morons and mostly you lie to yourselves.
We lie with truth. The NYT is written for guys like you.
Can you please go back and actually read the posts to which you're replying? The OP (and myself) are talking about the homepage. You clearly searched the phrase 'no kings'. You are ignoring very important context to our statements here.
They were on the homepage last night. I wouldn’t go back and read anything the OP wrote. He works for Trump ass kisser Bezos. And that’s ok with you? Besides the Amy Article was a feature. Not news. They stay up longer
Full disclosure, did not notice OP was a WaPo writer, apologies
No apologies needed. But I wish the left would stop falling for the bullshit as quickly as the right does. We’re doomed if we don’t.
Its a newspaper for fascists so makes sense to me.
Concurrently, the NYT will absolutely run a story about a single Trump supporter showing up anywhere.
It’s never been more clear who the mainstream media is beholden to, even the ones we once trusted.
The NY Times is the house organ of the oligarchic status quo.
It showed up on my NYT mobile app home page, right below the Trump military raid. Big coverage.
There is an article about Fox News's failure to cover the protests on an NYT website that one day later has erased its coverage visibility. The map of protest sites, when found, admits to being "not comprehensive", a laughable understatement. Failure, NYT.
Is the @nytimes.com compromised? Why would they downplay it?
shameful
I agree with the content of your post: The NYT has been as bad as the Washington Post has become. But the NYT just got there sooner. Your employer went Nazi way faster. Neither practices serious journalism any more, just Nazi propaganda. Neither deserves serious attention any more.
because they’re oligarch fluffers
This was clearly a change after this morning, where the front page top story head was “Military Might, Protest Power” with large photos from both.
Front page of print edition!
The protest was so large in Dallas that it covered blocks and blocks in the downtown area, but barely a mention on the local news.
I went to WP (one story at the bottom of the page) and NYT (none) to confirm that NOPE not really ranking as news to mainstream corporate inspired note taking. It's notable but on brand for what they've been like for movements for a few decades. They only take note when policies are co-opted.
NY Times sent a push alert when RFK Jr selected a “VP”.
Sadly it’s what they do! Cowards run the news!
They couldn't see them because their heads were up...well you know.
WTH @nytimes.com .. I thought you were the paper of record? Shame!
Well, we don’t read it anyway. And we shall not again!
That's because the @nytimes.com is active helping democracy die in the dark.
hey @mtsw.bsky.social you got any insight on this?
i hit this one already! bsky.app/profile/mtsw...
i shoulda known smh
running out of brick walls
It's job creation!
I noticed that too. Huge nationwide protests dwarfing anything we saw in 2010s Tea Party days, but my NYT app is serving me up top Trader Joe's picks instead. Qu'ils mangent de la ganache!
#Unsubscribe
I would just delete the app, if anything notable comes out of that rag you can read it other places.
NYT is trash
In case people were looking for something to do about it.
What people should be doing is canceling their NYT subscriptions.
I agree. But I cancelled mine when Krugman left them.
Why that didn't lead people to understand what the NYT really is now I'll never know.
IKR????
"I'm no longer free to write my opinions or use facts that are unpleasant for the regime" is one hell of an alarm that every current subscriber is ignoring.
Gosh, the times we live in. Sometimes I write something and then marvel at the fact that I’ve just composed *that* thought.
Yes but the rest was very polite and civil. At the time I thought that he framed it well, with hindsight I think he may have needed to be more blunt. But then I am far away, easy for me to say.
Personally I don't think Krugman soft-soaped his exit essay. He didn't use a lot of emotional language but he was very clear about what the NYT are doing to the news.
Well I only read it that day, maybe I should go back and review. But then it did lead me to drop the NYT that same day, which should have been a big deal but at the time I just felt like I’d drifted from the NYT, it no longer felt as vital as it once did.
The New York Times Instagram account is showing videos of the protests
The chyron on ABC Nightly News story said "thousands attend..." below larger font "CONFRONTATION..." It's just shameless
They chose poorly. "Editors & journalists were expected to follow the mandates and instructions handed down by the ministry and had to be registered with the Reich Press Chamber to work in this field. "https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/ministry-of-propaganda-and-public-enlightenment
They're cowards@
Wapo has one. The below is from the Irish times (Dublin):. Trump’s vanity takes a hit as modest crowd for military parade overshadowed by ‘No Kings’ protests across country
I get the print edition on weekends and it was the top headline with photo, albeit paired w/ Trumps military parade. But the protests got above the fold pic. I think it’s a story without many developments to keep it on top of the web page.
I’m exasperated by their language choice for what happened in MN - “dies” — was “assassinated” too big of a word (both figuratively and literally)? “Minnesota State Leader Assassinated” should have been the headline. Succinct and accurate based on publicly available knowledge.
But NYT *has* used the verb “assassinate” in a number of headlines, at least on app version. Also in the newsletter round out, e.g. this morning’s
"Without many developments" is the savvy yardstick that has now removed yesterday's millions from the NYT homepage entirely in less than a day. Violence and power and the boot in the face have earned-media energy that delivers "many developments," vs. bored newsroom contempt for peaceful resistance.
Also - Minnesota politician “dies”
Oof. That’s weird. Their breaking news headline on Sunday said assassinated. This was the article emailed out.
He’s lying. I saw 3 articles about them. He works for Trump ass kisser Bezos so of course he lies
Just scrolled the app, nothing about the US protests, several about the parade (including a flattering picture) and even some about recent European protests.
Well then I guess we're just going to need to make some developments in it then aren't we?
I got a similar front page on my print edition (not in the NY metropolitan area).
Hey @nytimes.com fuck you fascist lovers!!!!
Imagine what they are doing with Palestinians. All the 100 + years unjust - ignored, holocaust of Palestinians - ignored, ethnic cleansing - ignored.
Was top of Sunday national paper edition but weird it is not top online
What will it take for people to finally give up the NYT? Is there a low low enough for people to cancel their subscription? You all are supporting this with your money.
Weird. If I go to the online home page, nothing. If I go to today's front page of NYT, I get:
This is a shitty headline too. Acting like all poor widdle trump wanted to do was honor the troops, but the big meanies are criticizing him :(( like it wasn't a big vanity thing for his birthday lmao
Crummy headline, but at least it admits there were critics. Weird for them to drop that altogether from the homepage. Or complicit. One or both.
Heaven forbid they would publish anything that might upset the dear leader
The only way this changes is if y’all start to unsubscribe en masse. Long ago the NYT decided trump was good for business and they tilted their coverage accordingly. The “paper of record” is no more. Not by a long shot.
The NYT is lost. Shameful abdication of journalistic responsibility. Way to be on the wrong side of history, @nytimes.com
Not true! NYT is prominently featuring this story on massive protests!:
Oh, wait, you meant the massive protests that included millions of Americans in thousands of communities across the U.S. Nah, the Times has memory-holed those. Good boy, Arthur! Such an obedient boy!
in Europe...
That is astonishing. I stumbled upon links to "No Kings" stories while reluctantly skimming a story about Huma Aboudin's wedding yesterday. Wtf. Most were in the context of li'l Donnie's poorly attended military-themed birthday parade and law enforcement actions. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/u...
Go to Meidas instead
The BBC and AP sites covered them really well. The NYT is…rather untrustworthy as of late (about many topics)
It’s gonna be a rough ride when they find out the hard way!
We know what to do - avoid links from those media outlets trying to silence the millions of Americans who marched yesterday.
The NOT you mean, also known as New Orc Times.
Did you miss the "Several People Protested" article?
Thousands , page 20 it seems?
Bought media?
PBS's feed here isn't much better.
Their trying not to get in trouble by the felon
NYT is a joke.
Every day, mainstream media shoots themselves in the foot, highlighting their irrelevance.
Oooh oooh I did!! Waaay down under “Most Shared!” Ugh
MK Ultra - control the narrative
Five million people take to the streets, and as far as the editors are concerned nothing happened. Amazing.
Ok - that’s it @nytimes.com Buh bye then www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLZV...
Yeah, this is absolutely bizarre. One headline, far down, about Trump's poorly-attended vanity parade. A couple of editorials vaguely alluding to protests and the unlawful military deployments in LA. Absolutely nothing about the huge nationwide protests yesterday. Why??
Have you considered deleting the NYT Mobile App from your devices?
NYT - good only to line bird cages and to wrap fish.
And none were about the very small turnout for Trump’s birthday parade.
@nytimes.com You've become an absolute joke of a newspaper.
I noticed this on the Apple + News app, too. Pisses me off. How do those protest numbers not make it into their "Top Stories" section?!?
It's ok. We are getting our news from reliable independent sources! Fk ABC, NBC, And others!
The legacy news media is either bought off or they all are traitors.
😵💫
The Boston Globe usually seems reasonable. Today they have articles about the protests near the top. Maybe people could subscribe to them. www.bostonglobe.com
I subscribed after I canceled the NYT.
Quit complaining about NYT, aren't you over them yet?
They're literally fucking up again today
Unfortunately they are still influential Critiquing them is important
Boycott NYT.
The media is America’s problem right now.
@nytimes.com
At least the Boston Globe gets it right (most of the time). It's the only daily I read now.
Like other oligarch-owned publications it exists mainly to soothe the egos of the cartoonishly wealthy. In the next republics, newspapers will have to be owned by their employees and their communities. Billionaires will have to be taxed out of existence.
There was a lot of NYT coverage yesterday, the day it occurred. News, commentary, photo and video montages from protests in many states and abroad. Near the top of my app all day (I gather you get served slightly different content depending on where you live. I’m in the UK.)
H
@nytimes.com I remember when you were a real newspaper. What happened?
12+ million people on the streets. Did you miss it???
Sean Spicer counted and said there was exactly 641 protestors. He's never wrong on these things.
They're the paper of maintaining power
It had a piece earlier in the day. It's was gone 1 pm. Here's my solution.
Now they are saying 11 million people protested against trump, woot!
What if the next marches focus on the newspapers and their failure to inform?
And I have a subscription…mmmm. That can easily be CANCELLED!😡
The Dallas Morning News saw fit to feature a huge article about BBQ on the front page and the politically motivated murders of 2 Democratic elected representatives on page 4.
Correction: murder of 1 official
Saw that this morning. Egregiously disturbing. I don't know what's wrong there. The Editorial Board has spoken out against the Evil menace repeatedly but somehow they're blind to the actual people in this country. Maybe because we aren't invited to things like the Met Gala?
Well, der... we told you we are way beyond 'peaceful protest'. They couldn't care less.
@nytimes.com Please, for the love of Johann Carolus, stop embarrassing yourself and start acting like a legitimate news organization
Imagine if these had been millions of MAGA in 2000 cities… wall to wall coverage, crushing op-eds for the Democrats, blame games and hit jobs - for days.
It’s the New York Times. It is not news that they deliberately bury news of resistance/pro-democracy movements. They’ve been doing it for years and are proud of it. I find the best solution is to cancel your subscription.
Your newspaper just as billionaire-asshole bad, bitchtits
We need to focus massive protests at their headquarters.
Or just massive Unsubscriptions🫤
That’s a good start.
Think of all the stories they could be telling about these protests and this movement. They sure would be if it were conservatives in the streets in droves. Hardly a day goes by they don't feature the disordered ramblings of a Trump World "thought leader", yet no space for millions of protesters.
There were over a hundred thousand of us literally 3 blocks from the NYT offices, but I guess none of us were sitting in a diner, so ho-hum.
Hilarious because it’s true.
NYFT should be picketed daily. They are the problem. So called liberal source that is really conservative.
It wouldn't have mattered if you were in a diner anyway. The diner has to be in Podunk, Ohio to count.
That's actually a great idea for a protest though. Nationwide diner sit-in. Nonviolent, comfy for the folks who can't march so easily. Great for the diners because they're full and people order stuff all day. Hold an open seat with "reserved" sign for NYT reporters.
Venture capital libs protest ideas: "let's all go to brunch all day"
So true, there's no history at all in the US of diner sit-ins as an act of protest 😉
Yeah but you need to challenge and put pressure on a system (like a system of segregation challenged by POCs entering white spaces), otherwise who cares if you all chill at diners
Fair! But in context of a thread on how NYT, with 12M readers, is weirdly obsessed with people chilling in diners? Doesn't replace mass marches, but a bit of "I met working class people in a PA diner and they're actually super diverse & hate Trump" coverage would shift that 12M a bit.
Ok but that would clearly just not get passed their editors who are doing their best to humanize the fascist regime
I mean, please absolutely do make fun of "VC libs" because obviously (someone has to pay for the coffee.) But having worked in theater 10+ years: major media coverage is (still) part of the flywheel, and if they won't cover peaceful mass protest, one might experiment with stuff they WILL cover.
I think you are correct, just personally I don't see that experiment to be fruitful. In my country we rather experiment with setting stuff on fire when the government overreaches, I do think that's more impactful
But seriously though, if you wanna get covered by NYT, it helps to speak their language.
A few million subscribers who stopped subscribing would change their minds almost immediately.
Ngl, was really tempted to mess with their nice looking office but not that I would ever admit to doing anything if I did.
So who's the reliable source, Joey??? It's not the TIMES and it's not the POST. Not one single story on the main site. Who is it gonna be? @joemenn.bsky.social
There was one when I checked just now. But it was about the armed guy killed at one by security. It’s nuts that there is no article about it. No big think pieces. No collection of interviews. Maybe we’ll see one this week.
