The bigger issue, Jon, is that the article was written as if we exist in a complete data vacuum and that nobody has analyzed any of the data even they mention.

The idea that "China" can provide evidence that would rule out a lab origin is undercut by not having a testable theory that can even specify which lab. You'd never know reading this article that Relman was a Mojiang mine conspiracy theorist and that his favored conspiracy theory was disproven.
Folks demanding data should be able to demonstrate a track record of acting on it or at least say precisely what they'll do with the data. Not even close in this case.
Two slides later we find out what happens when "China" does publish data and it doesn't point to a lab leak. Relman amplifies some nonsense from a snake oil salesman and someone else who thinks SARS2 started in a lab in the USA, who speculate the data must be fake.
