Just playing devil’s advocate here, but the response would likely be “well trump is getting rid of the homeless. Paying for housing would never end”. They’ll never see the reason in compassion.

Removing them is not permanent. Reintegrating them in workforce is how you “get rid” of them. Providing temporary housing under strict conditions or temporary basic income are proven ways of reintegration.

It’s always about priorities and the fact that people aren’t important to those in power.
