He's not even hitting back. He's done fuck all of consequence, just post. His threats to redistrict California are also hollow because its all run independently.

The people who are elevated by mainstream media are intentionally chosen based on their acceptability to the people who own the publishers. Tons of people "hit back," but they are not highlighted by the media because they are also anticapitalist or otherwise "too radical" for billionaires.

Gavin Newsom is not special, he just has relationships with the right people to be elevated. Unlike people who would actually do meaningful things to improve situations for everyone, because those "right people" benefit from the toxic systems that need to be torn down to achieve real progress.

Newsom always felt one step away from hunting the homeless for sport.

Like Ron Wyden, he's probably the best Senator we have. But no one except those familiar with Internet laws recognizes him and is the only one who consistently calls out censorship bills.

Pritzker is better in every single way, including "hitting back."

I don't see him often enough to know, but I won't deny it either.
