relatedly it's so funny that they literally murder *the entire galactic government* and then that plot point is dropped and affects basically nothing about how things play out in the following two movies

It affects the second movie! It’s why the rebels are basically alone - I’ve never seen the third movie so, I can’t say for that one

but they've already established that the New Republic refused to support the Resistance or oppose the First Order! it doesn't need to be gone for the Resistance to be alone!

THIS AAUUGGHH Like, I cannot even take it seriously in the slightest and it has none of the impact of Alderaan getting destroyed because of how comically stupid and evil it is to destroy one of, if not the most densely populated planet in the galaxy. I am baffled these movies got made still
