I wonder if they're all doing tilt-up or prefab walls now. It would make sense as a reason for that.

It just doesn't make sense in locations with a ton of rain or a ton of snow. The generic boxy look provides no visual representation of the brand either. Yeesh. It's just dull, boring, uninspired, and lame.

It's a design trend that came about because it's cheaper to build and maintain boxes.
