Better than Houston, and just because the US hasn’t gotten its train in order doesn’t mean Europe and Japan aren’t clear examples of what US should go for transit why and have in fact been leading the way on transit for decades

When I was a child [1940s] the United States had cutting edge rail blanketing the country, with trains running even from secondary hubs like Louisville in every direction -- to Florida and Texas, DC and New York, to Chicago and California. In cities, we had electric trolleys.

Pres. Eisenhower put in interstate highways in late 1950s. Fabulous system. With air, choice infinite. Greed destroyed it. Tire companies headed by Uniroyal bribed city councils during WWII to tear out the electric city trolley lines city by city. Automotive industrylobbied against the railroads.

Big Auto and Big Plane have their hooks in legislation to keep *passenger* trains down.

Further (pun intended), as 1% influences legislation & they increasingly fly private (Teeterboro) they don’t care about improving airports nor rail.

Also, let’s not forget: POTUS just rec’d (bribe) a private jet. Does anyone really think he’s gonna do anything on HSR?
