It's ironic because MGS Delta, unlike that remake, is mostly a 1:1 replica of the original. The same cutscenes, level design, voiceover and whatnot, with the main difference being completely reworked visuals and updated controls. This, however, leads me to ask what even is the point of this project?

I assume Konami unironically just needs to give a team experience making a video game.

I feel like your post answers your comment's question. It's so that a younger generation doesn't have to go scrounging for a dated console and a hard copy of a game that was released two decades ago.

Remakes are not preservation. If one were to play the Silent Hill 2 remake, for example, they'd get a different experience from the original. Remasters, however, are a gray area. They are mostly inoffensive, but can be more insidious whenever they do make changes because they are less obvious.

The Persona 1 PSP remaster has a completely different soundtrack from the original, something an average player wouldn't be aware of. I know that because this has happened to me. Only after having completed it, I realised this. I felt like I was robbed of an experience I should have had.

Ultimately, the only real way to preserve videogames is through emulation, whether through official means or not. Remakes can't ever serve that purpose because we can't remake everything. Remakes should be reserved for when creatives believe they have a new and exciting take on the same ideas.

Heading into work so I'm gonna boil down my thoughts ALOT. Our disagreement comes down to me misunderstanding your argument. My definitions as an analogue to movies: Emulator: Movie on a different projector Port/Remake: Movie on DVD, with bonus features Remaster: The Lion King 2019 vs original

I think all three of those categories have a right to exist, especially if they are, in some way, different to the original. Otherwise, why bother recreating a work at all? I bought SotC for the PS3/4 because those were the consoles I had to play it on, and because I liked the graphical updates.

But yeah. I encourage people to not buy things they dont agree with. If you don't like remakes in general, more power to you :)
