You didn't mention what might be the biggest factor here, and few seem to want to acknowledge it.... The American population has an asshole-to-NON asshole ratio problem.

I guesstimate that Progs make up 15%-20% of 100% Democratic Party Voters. Progs are a minority within a minority. Even if the country is, for argument’s sake, a 50%/50% split between Dems and GOP voters, Progs would constitute, at most 7.5%-10% of the entire (100%) voting citizenry.
