I’m not sure why everyone who wants a war is so sure their side will win.

It was the same way before the first civil war. How quickly we forget.

There’s only one side, because the war-wanters on here are doing nothing to prepare for it. They act confused when you ask how weapons training is going. Turns out they want other people to do the war stuff.

Same with the revolution people and the general strike people They think it will be exciting and magically solve everything Meanwhile none of these shmoes could handle even two weeks of covid restrictions to keep their neighbors safe

People have been talking about a general strike on social media for as long as it has existed and no one has ever figured out the logistics. Where does food come from? Oh, you’re supposed to buy in advance? Well how do you know how much? What if you’re poor? Etc.

I've brought up the need for strike funds several times in response to calls for a general strike. Not once has this need been acknowledged by the general-strike wanter.

Maybe the "general-strike wanters" you're talking about are random people on social media with as much education/resources as you and I. What exactly do you expect? Yes, a TON is needed for it to work. But so what? Don't try it? And do what instead? The usual? Vote for another politician to save us?

Did I say don’t try it? I want it to WORK Simply bleating “we need a general strike!” then going crickets when reminded that striking people and vulnerable people still gotta eat is childish and doesn’t deserve serious consideration

They get very annoyed if you remind them that a strike that doesn’t have a plan for ensuring people have food, medicine, shelter, medical care, and childcare isn’t going to last long enough to be effective What they really want is a magic reset button

We SHOULD have that plan. But it doesn't just come out of nowhere, and it won't happen if all we do is pretend anybody calling for a solution that isn't "wait for the next election" is some selfish idiot who wants an easy revolution. We should be working together, not shitting all over each other.

You're strawmanning really hard. Putting a general strike in the same boat as a violent revolution shows an insanely ignorant view of both. Who thinks it's exciting? Or magical? 200 people on Bluesky.com? 1000? Does it even matter to you? What is your solution, then? Vote?

I’m talking about the people who advocate these things without taking any practicalities into account, like how will people get food and healthcare if they happen If you haven’t encountered such people, count yourself lucky If you are one yourself, fuck off

I see I misunderstood when you said "the revolution and gen strike people". Most I find here are of the "any solution u got is bad & I have no alternative" sort. It's just frustrating. Feels like many dont want anything to be tried bc they don't want their lives to change, despite others suffering.

We'll all be home by Christmas. *touches ear* I'm hearing 'Christmas' and 'all' are both wildly optimistic estimates, as is the notion of a 'home' to return to.

This is the thing that gets me. I feel like we on the left are pretty well aware of the military capabilities of the US, it being one of the things we don't like, and same with the militarization of the police. So why does ANYONE think a war against the right is remotely winnable?

Because ppl want to believe there's smth better than this. No reasonable person is "excited" for civil war. Same way nobody's "excited" for a storm, it's a different feeling. It's not difficult to get. We're all just watching everything be torn apart bc we have no choice but to try and afford rent.

Yeah, every scenario people throw around when bragging about what they’d do in a “civil war” involves individual amateurs running around with guns. Where is the army in all that? Or the vast law enforcement agencies with military weapons? Or the for-profit mercenary groups? Or other countries??

Pish posh most civil wars are won cleanly and decisively by one side, with minimum horrors experienced by civilians. And it might as well be the side that agrees with me!
