Everyone should do time in the food service industry so they are nice to our restaurant people OMG.

That and some sort of retail work. People would change their minds about minimum wage real quick.
I would not make it one day in the food service industry. That's why I always tip high.
So true. I worked in the food industry decades ago and to this day I am so thankful that there is still people who are there for me and mine when we eat out. If you're an asshole just have it delivered to your damn cave. It limits your ability to abuse.
Also been decades but has rubbed off on me for life
I worked in hotel restaurants for over 3 years and you’re right. Unless you worked long hours in a hot kitchen on your feet trying to please an unseen unknown guest then who have zero clue on it takes to prepare your meal. So be kind or you never know what special items you might be eating.
Hello! Are you interested in working from home? No experience is needed, one week of training. Earn $30 per hour! for more information, text me +1 (220) 257-1768
Totally.
I’m like do these people not understand what a great luxury it is to have somebody else make food for you and not have to do dishes like show some gratitude and patients bro
Or retail. Any customer facing position teaches you so much.
Idk I have a friend that worked retail and I cringe when we go out to eat- so demanding to the server I always go back and tip extra: she doesn’t quite get it.
That’s weird. I have worked in both. But I think people should work in both to have empathy for each industry.
Honestly have never worked retail!! I’ve heard this theory though. As someone had done both are people just as bad in retail?! I thought people were a special kind of way bc hangry 🤣
*patience
Starting with James Corden.
Yep. More enterprises than I'd care to recall, personally, but you make a good point. ... So maybe set up a kind of lottery system, crossing taxpayer or Selective Service type info with personal interests, individual palates/inclinations, and even relevant demographic data? Nobody should miss out!
What socioeconomic strata of society is the worst towards food service workers?
Good question, as a worker and in observations I’ve noticed it from poor to rich. I’ve mostly lived in pretty white areas so maybe it’s a white people issue 😅
Yes.
You don't need to work in the industry, just don't be a cunt.
Working in the industry brings you to a certain level of understanding that you don't have without first doing it. Even if you're not a cunt.
It doesn't. I've seen plenty of people who worked in the industry and move on from it believe that those who don't move on from it are beneath them.
Some people can only be taught with beatings. For the rest of us, there's short term employment in food service.
Some people are just bad
You're not wrong.
That's true of everything, but the premise that you need to work in a hospital to understand how to act around nurses sounds idiotic to me as well.
OooOooo. Look who's bragging about being able to afford healthcare.
Plenty of people who worked in the industry; theyre out and now love being the kunt. Come on, most people suck
Healthcare worker would be next closest! Abuse of nurses and other Healthcare providers is a significant issue as well!
Facts. Or some kind of service worker job
I worked every level of food service, from dishwasher to line cook. My problem is asking for a table, and their answer is always "Do you have a reservation?" Dip shit, if I had a reservation those would have been the first words out of my mouth. They've already drawn a battle line, before I enter.
First world elitist problem there, bucko
So true- I know shit happens and am extremely forgiving to servers, but a bit less tactful with Management. When I discovered a small slug in my salad at a fairly high end restaurant and couldn't get anyone's attention until the invader had disappeared, I made sure the exec chef heard about it.
Retail too!
I’ve admittedly never worked retail. While in high school and college I was working 40 hours in restaurants so that never crossed my mind. Idk why folks would be rude to retail what’s there to be mad about ?! I always put things back on the shelf and am kind to the cashiers.
That's cuz you worked in service.
Agree👍
Or at least have parents who teach them how to respect others, esp those in the food and all service industries. It shouldn’t be too much to expect respect of others. But sadly it is. ✌️
100%
I think the punishment for being rude to restaurant people should be having to work a few shifts themselves.
💯
They should just make it legal that if they grab your ass, you get to feed them their whole meal in an instant and then charge them triple for the extra service and the clean up. If they say anything offensive or demeaning, their bill comes with a 💯 % tip for the whole table already charged.
and they can learn about food safety and basic kitchen skills. Sooo important
My sister, despite having been a waitress in her youth, is the worst tipper I've ever met. When we go to lunch I have them split the bill (rather than just sorting it at the table) so that I can subtly shame her into a decent tip. (She cheats off my work.) It's maddening.
Been there. Worked a short-order cook fast-food job when I was in college. Hard work, great co-workers, terrible pay, had to walk alone at midnight in the dark to the bus to get home (in a big city) and transfer twice (again standing alone in the dark). I've worked in the fields too. Very hard.
Especially dishwashers
As a server I always befriended the dishwashers 🥰 my husband is even our resident dishwasher 😆
Well of course, dishwashing is part of my current duties here as well.
I've never done that but I have common sense and empathy so I'm always nice, even when they're not, because maybe they're having a bad day and I'm not going to make it worse by being mean/rude.
