What are the games with the smallest install sizes you gave installed right now?
What are the games with the smallest install sizes you gave installed right now?
Probably Serpent Isle?
animal well (how is it so small...) and dungeon antiqua
I know the PDX Grand strategy games get a lot of shit for their DLC practice (and tbf they have shifted focus so that the important parts are in the free updates) but the fact that afaik none of them are more than 20gb is insane. Also selaco and shadows of doubt
Pixelships, from www.pixelships.com/games.html 624kb.
Hardcoded: 296.72 MB Little Kitty Big City: 1.22 GB
.kkrieger, but that's kinda cheating
On my Switch 2, it’s the SEGA AGES version of Sonic 1 (44.2 MB). There’s barely a single small game on my PS5, lol.
would feel like cheating if it weren't for the fact i've played em recently
looking only at my steam install, Kingsway at 57MB, followed very closely by UnReal World at 58MB Aseprite beats them at 25MB if you're willing to call that a game
I'm willing to guess Retro City Rampage is like a double digit amount of megabytes, the Switch version boots up instantly, it's wild
Looking like this one, with Touhou Library Survivors as a close 2nd at 196.41mb
Terraria is always a neat sub 1GB at 656.06MB. Although on top of that is the mods I have adding 1.12GB
ski free
Apparently Dimension Tripper Neptune: Top Nep at 23.54MB. I don't even remember buying or downloading this game??? 🤔
OmegA which is a standalone mod for Open Arena which is an open source clone of Quake 3 and is less than 1gb www.moddb.com/mods/openare...
Celest
This beauty, only 20 MB store.steampowered.com/app/32150/Ev...
Maybe "Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge" which is just under 3MB. But it also comes with 180mb of "Bonus Content" mostly PDF scans of the instructions, hint and lore books.
Balatro. 67MB of incredible game.
bottom 3 on steam right now. at the other end of the spectrum, stalker 2 is taking up 150gb
through steam at least it is Peggle clocking in at 18.56 megabytes
I think Horizon's gate is sub 1GB, maybe
Visual DOS 2024 at 15.4 MB
There's a decent chance the only game I have installed on my computer right now is Satisfactory, so probably Satisfactory
Through Steam anyway, lowest 3: There's something mildly hilarious about Peggle Extreme, the free, spin-off, promotional title, having a larger install size than the original Peggle
Open TTD!
Idk, there's probably some indie or vintage game somewhere on my system that's like half a kilobyte or something if I look hard enough.
i'm at work but i am VERY interested in checking when i get home. good question
Probably this? There might be others as I've forgotten some of the games I even have installed but so far this is definitely the smallest.
I actually have never played the OG version, I got the game for the silly X-Piratez full conversion of the game that @dominictarason.com recommended a while back. Lost my game when my old comp died, I should start a new one and see if I can finish one of these days.
I prefer The Xcom Files. It's more carefully crafted and, as much it pains me to admit, Piratez kind of makes me uncomfortable.
But, it's funny that both mods are many times as big as the original. And, I think that TXCF has more SMGs as there are guns in the original, including the alien ones.
Xcom Files is the X-Files inspired one right? (I am so smart to figure this out lol) I heard that one's pretty amazing too. I should also play the OG too lol, but *waves hands at giant game backlog* I guess I can add it to the pile.
Yeah, it's the one. *Looking at my hundred of PC games I never touched and my unopened PS3 games.* I can relate.
Probably Nethack, but even that's pretty chonky, with all the gunk you need to bolt on to pretend Windows is a proper OS...
and 3.4.3 is like 2mb if you get rid of the files you dont need
12 mb isn't very chonky
Maxwell's puzzling demon, 100mb of brain-melting puzzle complexity
Animal Well is 33 MB and that is straight up witchcraft. Billy Basso is a witch!
Prolly Luftraisers
Marathon 2 and Infinity are right behind at 83mb and 90mb each
I got nostalgic and installed Epic Pinball from my DOS days. It's 18 MB.
I finished Steam World Heist last week, and I think it was 300ish megabytes.
Quake Remaster, 1.14gb
This fan renpy remake of a Hoyo game that's not available in English: hoyostans.itch.io/guns-girlz-o...
actually nvm I spoke too soon, it's definitely Heat Signature. 5x smaller lol. Turns out you can fit quite a lot of game in a top down 2d roguelite
Dark Seed 2, maybe? That or Space Cadet Pinball
I think Plants vs. Zombies (the first one) is 65mb.
Streets of Kamurocho at 33.63 MB
Leather goddesses of Phobos
Depends on how you count it. If we don't include things like dosbox, and only include full scale games, probably x-com or master of orion (14MB). But if we're more permissive - minesweeper is 143k.
Doom/Vampire Survivors/Starbound One of them I'm sure is the smallest.
I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1NIT!!!1
Probably Mewnbase.
Oh wait I also have starflight 1 & 2, which, even including the DOSBox wrapper, are probably tiny.
Astebros, followed by Neptunia Shooter, Helen's Mysterious Castle (Peak), Kingsway, and then Balatro.
Think it's probably Classic Marathon on my Mac at 108.7 MB. On my Windows computer... Metal Slug X at 99.54 MB, just BARELY beating out Undertale at 155.54 MB.
I have a pretty fun game called primordialis that is literally 41.9 mb
Definitely Balatro.
Super solid like 5-hour game with a 2-hour DLC campaign. One of my go-to palate cleaner games.
If ROMs don't count Earthion at 47MB, if that technically being a mega drive game doesn't count it's The Crimson Diamond at 197MB
street fighter vs mega man, legend of fae and rocket rats
That's a big list. But uh... Albion, Terraria, some of my adult-rated games, the original DOOM games, Heretic, Hexen, and a bunch of others I can't recall of the top of my head right now... I have quite a few. *nods* I'd go look them all up, but like I said, there's quite a few. XD
Steam: UFO Defense at 16.5 MB GOG: Dukem Nukem at 14.7
Some of them are Noitu Love 2 Devolution (12MB), Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (19MB), Atom Zombie Smasher (25MB), Plants Vs Zombies (49MB) and Creepy Castle (54MB).
Still got regular old Doom on Steam. Probably not the smallest, but it’s down there.
text based: colossal cave adventure, 77kB but it does need a dos emulator to run. for running without emulation: a game i made for a game jam called rat run which is 648kb (171kb assets, 74kb code, 403kb system dll) though im probs more obsessed than the average person about keeping games small
if not this, the game of pong i wrote in assembly last year which is only like, a little over 1kb (60% is just the font in memory only about 400 bytes of gameplay)
Balatro is sitting pretty small at 60MB.
Earthion is something like 30MB? It comes out on the Sega Mega Drive next year.
Kero Blaster 4.51 MB Retro City Rampage DX 19.09 MB Downwell 41.1 MB
I'd have guessed it'd be something completely text based, but this new ZX Spectrum game from someone I know might be the winner.
Nightmare Cart at 624mb. Close second: Dominions VI at 687mb. I had balatro installed at some point but i got out...
Caves of Qud. About 200 MB.
astrolancer is a cool 33.51 megabytes
Umamusume is pretty small
prolly FTL unless ROMs count
i haven't even played FTL recently. i just never bothered to uninstall it cuz it's too small for me to even notice it's taking up any space
Every once in a while FTL becomes my entire life for like two weeks.
I should play that again, it's been forever
have u ever won? i haven't. it's HARD
A bunch but the first couple ships are tough to work with. Engi ship and Mantis ship are way easier, default ship just go all in on laser barrage.
i hot to the point where i could always make it to the final area no matter the garbage i randomed, but that cap ship is bonkers hard
I’ve played 50 hours and one once on easy. I love the gameplay but the rng made me dislike rougelikes in general because it was so frustrating.
“won” damnit. I’m used to being able to edit posts.
It was one of the first pc games I ever bought in like 2010 and I've never beaten it
i don't remember when i bought it but probably same tbh
I've only ever won if I grind certain crew skills against an early enemy that can't damage me, or you get real lucky on the weapon rng (FIRE!)
Ye like a few times but I don't play ironman mode so idk if that counts
i have won exactly once
I've won a fair few times. Think I have all the ship variants unlocked.
is it possible to learn this power?
Sure. With FTL it's called masochism. I've also got about 200 hours in the game. Which given some of my other games isn't much but it's enough to learn they system.
Kero Blaster at 4.51MB. It's solid run & gun. I'm a bit surprised because it didn't feel like a particularly small game for its genre
store.steampowered.com/app/2929540/...
counting mobile, I believe Hoplite clocks in at around 50-60mb
Beneath a Steel Sky (1994) Perspective Ronin Superflight Uplink Webbed
Marathon is only 66MB so I'm guessing it's gotta be that. Next smallest I can find is System Shock Enhanced which is 256MB
I think I've still got a copy of .kkrieger on my system which clocks in at around 96 KB (with a K)
doom
Mecha Simultactics Alpha
Dawnsbury Days. 2 GB.
Without meticulously going through everything on my drives I'm going with Gearhead Arena: The freeware mecha roguelite RPG that if I remember correctly at one point had extremely similar mechanics to Mike Pondsmith's MekTon TTRPG. Or maybe that was the sequel. gearheadrpg.com 10.7 MB Size on Disk
I dunno if "installed" includes "DOS games I have on my hard drive that I can play through DOSBOX," but the smallest of those is Alley Cat. As far as actual "installed" installed games, the smallest ones I have right now would be "Moonring" and "I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1"
tyrian 11.48MB
thank you zuma very cool (also wow popcap games are teeny weeny but they're also ancient)
??????????????????????
Path of Achra I think, it's 103mb. xD
Something like 300MB can't remember which game it is, but I like what I've played so far
Animal jam… yes you can laugh.
