Soon after Columbine a guy in my computers class found their website, a line that they wrote that stuck with me is "the holocaust never happened but it would have been cool if it did." They were nazi white supremacists too the core.
News outlets were too busy showing clips of Doom to address the Nazi shit. God, this stupid fucking country.
If it wasn't games it'd be something else. They made a choice not to address violent white supremacy and then scrambled to find something to blame instead. They also pretended the shooters were "bullied" instead being bullies, slandering the kids who died to protect violent white supremacy.
You’ve got it. There always has to be a scapegoat because addressing actual fucking problems is a bridge too far. The fact that I had my own hobbies repressed by my parents because of the dumb shit they saw on the news irritates the hell out of me to this day because they never changed.

when Columbine happened i was put on a watchlist because i was bullied so bad. nobody thought, hey, let's help this kid. instead i was treated like a criminal.

I’ve always wondered what exactly they said on those basement tapes that have never been fully transcribed and released to the public and my guess is a lot of the Nazi stuff being said explicitly
I remember when I watched Bowling for Columbine and it had an interview with Marilyn Manson saying he would have listened to the shooters. I rolled my eyes so hard at that.
I remember how a female mass shooter last year was mentioned everywhere on the net when someone claimed she was trans, and when it was proven she wasn't just cis, but also a terf and a nazi with an easily reachable online trail (where she idolized the Columbine shooters), absolute radio silence.
It was actually reported later in the day it happened, and then... nothing. Never heard about it again until books came out years later.
The entire length of "Bowling for Columbine" does not include /one/ mention of the fact the boys were Nazis.
