I find it easiest to trace my patterns on this way! Then I just flip it at the end :)

it's called stitching in the well, and the main advantage imo is that because the back is "popped out" it's much easier to finish stitches on the back. when you stitch the "normal way" it can be hard to fit your needle under stitches especially close to the edge where the angles get weird
