Probably would have had to lean a lot more on original footage by that point, which may have worked against it.

I thought that the new cartoonish robots could be designed by the kids themselves, seems like a natural progression of the idea.

Art Fortunes teaching the kids to draw so they can create the power-ups they need. Meanwhile maybe Les Fortunes has a bratty kid he never knew about and that's where the evil robots come from. And then you still have the classic suits to have S1-2 style fights.

Which means the Hillhurst monsters could both push their way into the sports, somehow, or if the kids are making their own comic, try and set themselves up as their managers/business partners and run it out of the haunted house.
