It distorts & inures us to our reality that everyday since inauguration has not seen huge full-banner, epoch-defining, agenda-setting headlines in NYT & WSJ etc enumerating starkly the latest Trumpian attacks on the republic & institutions of democracy like we saw for Pearl Harbor or 9/11. Every day
At the very least, they should frame the daily Trump news as one continuing story of predictable autocratic consolidation rather than presenting each outrage as an isolated conundrum.

Yes, this. But the Admin knows, and the NYT/WSJ know, that you can't have Pearl Harbor/9-11 headlines every day, or even every week. And that's how they get you. It's horrifying, but I'm not even sure what advice I'd give to the NYT ed board.
There were some stretches in WWII where you had lots of big headlines on every front page.
True -- and that would work if we could all agree that we were in a total/existential war situation. Which we are. But there's no precedent in modern US history for recognizing this, ie our own president attacking US institutions and populace by means of the fed gov't.

I’m sick of hearing myself say this but the oligarchic mass media loves trump endlessly. They’re terrified of him but they love him so much. Picture the page ones the day that POS dies. It will make hagiography seem like small beans. Prob one of those repulsive drawing of Jesus holding him.
If you actually READ the headlines of the New York Times during World War II, they simply reported the awful news. They didn’t repeatedly say “Hitler is bad“, they trusted readers to understand that from the facts. If you don’t want journalism, don’t read newspapers.
