Thanks for clarifying. I don't think Will is in any sense saying the LGBT community "went too far"; how are you getting that from this thread? I just see him saying that marriage equality was significant and meaningful, which seems self-evidently true. At least to me.

Put it in the context of the skeet he was quoting. He's not just saying ME was significant and meaningful, he's blaming the reactionary right (as he should!), but with no understanding of how neoliberalism's "hollow assimilationism" got us to this moment of backlash.

WOKE KONG @glocks4interns.bsky.social

Wait, we've not been in the neolibral era for 40 years, however it is responsible for the past 20 years of social changes? This "math" ain't "mathing"

I think we don't have to get caught up in the math. There's a simpler principle here: blaming neoliberals for reactionaries' choices is silly. This is just another example of "Only liberals have agency, right-wingers get free passes."

What I don't understand is why the people who purport to despise neoliberalism are not willing to vote to keep conservatives out of power in order to help move the government to the left.

Cause our only options are openly moving rightward at a terrifying rate and when you bring attention to this 400 lickspittles crawl out of the woodwork to gleefully hope you die in a camp or to a natural disaster

neoliberalism directs state (& military) power to advance private enterprise as the primary mode of production and distribution, which is existentially dangerous for those whose lives are often marginalized by those enterprises for profits for us on the left, it's not really a move to the left!

if we're evaluating the efficacy of our own agency as a unified opposition to the right, "we thought neoliberalism made real change but it immediately fell apart" is an important failure to reconcile, but they don't want to associate with neoliberals because that's not the target audience here
