Don’t present these as options. I know people are being cheeky when they say this but there really is no “you give X up first and then I’ll give up Y”. Suggest you’re ok giving up Y in certain situations.

Exactly. Thank you for pointing out this false implication that we would or should *ever* be willing to give up birth control. We do this far too often, and it subtly accepts their framing that we should even be *discussing* giving up [birth control, trans rights, vaccines, whatever].

It doesn't matter if no one ever makes this joke again, they will still try to eliminate women's rights. Our framing has absolutely nothing to do with, and has no effect on, their objectives. Mockery is useful in that it highlights the hypocrisy for people who are not already on their side.

Also, I would argue that you are the one accepting the larger framing that if we just earnestly state our positions, the opposition will treat them with good faith when we know that's not the case. It doesn't matter if we say we would give up birth control or not, they will still try to take it.
