This is the problem! And folks like Tom Nichols are over here chiding Democrats about nomenclature while Republicans burn the republic to the ground. It’s genuinely just shockingly condescending.

I have been screaming about rampant GOP mischaracterization of Democrats, and their stranglehold on both corporate and social media, ever since Newt and the arrival of Fox. Tom and Sarah are just saying "Don't Make It Easier for Them. The nomenclature helped them get the power to burn it down.

But the claim that Democrats say these words constantly is LITERALLY a GOP mischaracterization of Democrats! Sarah Longwell identifies professionally as a Republican strategist. Why are you trusting Republicans when they claim, without evidence, that Dems say these words all the time?

In 2008, after decades in CA, I moved back to ND to do eldercare. ND's 2 senators and 1 house seat were all Dem then I WATCHED sensible people I grew up with succumb to Fox/Rush/Sinclair propaganda. I was the only one of my friends not surprised by Trump in 16. Don't make it easier.

There is no way not to. They’re lying about Dems using these words - and they’re happy to keep lying. They call all Dems socialists, communists, Maoists. This is just another lie - a weird, Orwellian “stop saying these words” lie attempting to dictate the policy the coalition stands behind.

You know you're talking about people who left the Republican Party years ago, right?

Sarah Longwell never left as far as I know, but I could be wrong. Regardless: if they’re going to make assertions, it’s a baseline expectation that they provide actual data to back them up. The data shows Rs use these words more than Ds. It’s pretty clear. So there’s not much to debate.

And I have to say: how is this remotely appropriate now? Has Sarah Longwell, Republican Strategist, made a list of words Republicans should stop using? No. The high-flung condescension of a Republican sternly lecturing Dems about what words to use while Republicans burn everything down is galling.

Their point is, "Don't make it easier!" 8 years ago, I'd scream "It's not FAIR!!" at Tom. But it doesn't MATTER what's fair. What MATTERS is finding a way to counteract GOP spin. And recapture WI, NC, GA, NV, IA, MO. Also, both Sarah & Tom have been staunchly anti-Trump from the get-go."
