This also robs society of great minds because there is little to no chance that brilliant people born into poverty can climb out without a ladder.

Yeah. I've often wondered how many brilliant minds have lived and died hidden away in fields, alleys, and sweatshops. Most of them probably didn't even realize that they were gifted, having had no opportunity to demonstrate it to even themselves. What a loss to the world.
