3/ Florida found students counted twice, once in public schools, again for vouchers. North Carolina schools inflated enrollment to pocket funds. Iowa vendors double-billed taxpayers. Indiana’s voucher fraud ballooned into hundreds of millions. This is systemic theft.
4/ Texas is next. Their 2026 voucher law sets aside $1B, but fiscal notes project $3.9B by 2030. GOP lawmakers built in weak rules, letting private schools accredit-shop & dodging oversight. The stage is set for corruption on a massive scale.
5/ Meanwhile, public schools drown in audits, ethics codes, & bans on nepotism. Private schools cashing public checks? None of the above. In Texas, trustees already gave themselves $465K landscaping contracts & $1.2M for “education materials.” All legal under GOP laws.
6/ This is Starve the Beast in action: manufacture a budget crisis with runaway voucher costs, then use it to justify cuts to education, healthcare & safety nets. Chaos by design. The GOP is dismantling the public good to feed private profit & ideology.

There are no requirements for those schools to protect girls, to serve children with special needs, to follow mandatory reporting or to not discriminate. Think about that! 80% of monies go to rich families already paying for segregated schools. They started gutting public schools in the 2000’s.
I’m extremely happy to live in a purple state! Democrats and Independents would never allow that crap here.
