I think they see a lot of tornado footage that's all timber and vinyl siding? They should know that a tornado recently went through STL, where all the houses are brick, and did exactly as much damage

It may be that Europeans just don’t have a reference point for “severe wind/rain storm” due to geography

IIRC we're the only country that gets tornados, so we're producing a lot of compelling video of a force of nature that literally doesn't exist elsewhere

Yeah that’s definitely where a lot of them get it from. There was recently a guy asking “do you still think of walls as a metaphor for something impenetrable when your drywall walls are so weak?” and someone had to break it to him that his country also has drywall.
