I just heard a rabbit squealing outside. Most likely a coyote or an owl just caught it.

Years ago, heard one late at night in the backyard, went to the dark window to listen. It stopped, then a few moments later started up again, very loudly and right next to the window. Must have been an owl that brought it into a tree next to me. I jumped, and not just a little bit.

I suspect an owl because coyotes will often do some yipping.
