One key question is what can disrupt that sense. A convulsion of national protest? A big Democratic midterm? A recession. It seems like resistance is increasing, rather than decreasing, as a function of time.

A major midterm would be the clearest indication. Protests would have to be wide and durable enough that they can’t be dismissed as Democrats blowing off steam to move elite opinion. The other question is what it would take in terms of actions from the admin to provoke resistance.
