Age verification via face scans is not safety — it's surveillance. Biometric age guessing is inaccurate, discriminatory, and creepy AF. Stop normalizing it. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

snoopy prigs fuck off
Another thing about this is verifications via credit card (some adult platforms use this) fail about 50% of the time. It's "easier" than giving over your actual ID, but since it fails that much, people get pushed to things like giving scans of their IDs, or worse: using these biometric readers.
Also: some people look much older or much younger than they actually are. These biometric scans are worthless for age verification.
As a Fey Person whose age and gender are entirely indeterminate on sight, I find this technology SUS AF.
You're not wrong to give it heavy side-eye.
I saw a TV series (Extrapolation?) where in the future young people were wearing 3D holographic animated faces so they could show themselves as a dog or baby or robot or generic face and I was like “why would that become popular, to not show your face?” And now I know.
Do we really want corporations to start using our children that early? They will capture the likeness, attach data sets, and monetize it. For the rest of their time on earth, our children will be relentlessly individually targeted. Creepy AF indeed.
100% agree. Face scans can be discriminatory and invades privacy. These are not real problem solvers but lobbied their way into the law by vested interests
Face scan invades privacy. Why not use zkPs to generate privacy preserving proofs of user DOB/age? Any thoughts?
I've seen at least two different vloggers post on how to scam some of them using video game characters. This was always going to be a garbage way to verify anything. Teenagers are making deepfakes for the hell of it; no one thinks they'll do it to access the sites they want?
