Indeed! What are they there for???
The "purpose" of being a senator in the US currently is to get rich via insider trading and bribes, and stroke the ego with power and influence. Nothing to do with public service.
Oh, I see you met Senator’s Josh Hawley and Eric Schmidt. The Midwest Poster Boys of winning an election then Disappearing.
How many out of 100 are in it to make things better for constituents considering what one has to do to get elected & stay there? We need limits.
To make your own life better is my guess.
100% plus if voters are not managing them in their jobs !
It's all about the money.
isn't that their only job?
“Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.” Orwell, 1984
They're making their OWN lives better. As in filthy rich. And they get to go on recess for close to half the year!
A bit naive. Except for a few, most politicians are looking for money/power, influence. Ppl should see Princeton Oligarchy Report. Constituents have Zero influence on Politicians and policy. Zero as in None.Lobbyist/ donors have all the influence. Take $ out of politics Grifters will quit!
I’m with ya, dude!
Perhaps because that power allows them to enrich themselves?
In 500y only the name changed. We still live under kings, In the old days there was one, now we have hundreds. And no king ever used power for the good of the peasant!
They’re all afraid of being assassinated by Trump‘s followers. And most of them are happy to be bought off as well.
Apparently it’s self enrichment. #USSenate
Especially if you’re a Florida senator fond of defrauding government programs with a hell bent determination to oppose any and all legislation preventing elected government officials from owning stock. Not that I have anyone in particular in mind.

Lansing had a town hall tonight for Tom Barrett, he seemed happy to hold my sign for a photo, but his disastrous vote on the big bad bill had everyone in the room very much not happy. #MI07 needs a rep that will fight so EVERYONE has healthcare. elyonbadger.com
Why do we LET anyone have power unless they make our lives better?
Umm. Really? You have to ask? Power and money never fails to seduce all, but the most courageous, righteous hearts that value character. Funny thing denial is…many of such poor quality character convince themselves they are still quality character even when caught in their corrupt practices.
They have power to enrich their lives. That's why they do it.
They ARE making people’s lives better, rich people and themselves.
Trading stocks ?
JD Vance was given money. His first venture capitalist deal was a disaster. AppHarvest filed bankruptcy and cost investors millions.
When Minnesota State Senator Melissa Hortman was assassinated, GOP leader Demuth said, "Her ability to lead people and to do the right thing. Her transparency," Demuth said, "and not even for personal gain. But again, just to do the right thing." Her tone was incredulous that she put others first.
To get richer?
Enrich themselves and their buddies!
They’re generally not good people & you are. Your brain doesn’t work like theirs. 😢
