PS5 disc version during the second covid lockdown in Canada. Was going out of my mind with boredom and ended up buying it from a scalper. Think the grand total was $700 CAD which the scalper only made like $50 or so after he gave me the receipt for warranty.
Mandatory "fuck all scalpers" and such but I made him meet me and with the gas, time and effort it took him to actually find an opening to buy a PS5, $50 CAD is hardly worth it. Been enjoying my PS5 ever since though.
Spent 600 on PS5 because it was still unavailable at stores and came with a few games that made the price worth it. A guy I know bought one when they were scarce and his wife was so mad she made him sell it. I still feel bad for him, but hey, don’t make financial decisions without your partner 😛
I bought a PS5 Pro, a disc drive, and a stand on launch day. It was offset by selling my launch PS5 w/ disc drive, but it was still about $600. Also, I only paid $200 for my Dreamcast, but in the first couple weeks, I had Sonic, NFL 2K, NBA 2K, HotD 2, Power Stone, Soul Calibur, controllers, & VMU
Plus the 3rd party light gun. I had been a Saturn fan who had waited 2 years for a new SEGA console, so I’d saved up money for literal months. It was totally worth it since that launch was awesome.
I somehow managed to buy a PS5 bundle shortly after launch. My dad was dying, and I was in the middle of the worst cold of my life (neither COVID related). I desperately needed a distraction, so I pulled the trigger on a PS5, headset, controller, and Spider-man bundle. Altogether it was around $700.
It's probably not the best way to handle all that, but I regret nothing.
Also, apologies for the echo in the second segment; we're aware of it and will try to fix it over the weekend.
Not counting Switch 2 as it isn't released, £99 is the most I've spent on a console pre-order, as I've only ever pre-ordered the mini retro consoles, but before them there was the crown jewel of gaming turds, the OUYA - I'm keeping hold of it in case there is a zombie apocalypse and I need a weapon.
I loved my time with the 360era, but it was time for a change. I watched the PS direct and nothing was going to stop me from playing NoMansSky. It felt like a huge decision trading in my PS3 and Xbox360 and both my game libraries to GameStop just to take a dent out of the cost of the PS4.
Fast forward to the release of NoMansSky and the look of disappointment on my face after two hours of gameplay … deep down I always questioned how much this spark of interest really cost me.
I bought the PS3 Metal Gear 4 bundle at Toys 'R' Us, & because the cashier was especially persuasive about buying the insurance, the whole shebang came to about $720. As a result it was my only console for a while, and I didn't end up getting a 360 until much later, around when Halo: Reach launched.
As an aside, I wish L4D2 had been listed as a Southern Gothic game. It's set in & around New Orleans, & several setpieces reference the city's history. Fighting mudmen in Swamp Fever & sneaking around a raised graveyard in The Parish were some of my favorite moments from that generation.Numero Cero?
When I first got a ps2 at launch, the only store near me that had them in stock would only sell it to you in a bundle with 3 games, a memory card, and an extra controller. This came to about $520, which is about $950(!) with inflation. Yikes!
I went and double checked and it turns out this is only marginally more expensive than the ps3 at launch ($935 with inflation), so the ps3 with one game is actually still more expensive
My now wife bought me a day 1 Wii at a Walmart in the middle of nowhere Michigan, and she never let me forget about it. Problem is, she kept trying to up herself so when the Switch came out, she paid $850 to an online resaler.
The only way I could get an XBox Series X was the deal that required a two year sub to Game Pass Ultimate, so 500+24*20 = $980? Easily the most I've spent, although it was across two years. I dropped to Game Pass Plebian or whatever it's called, since not even kids have time to play that many games.
